Best traditional home-cooked comfort food 9/26/2008

My wife lived in Japan almost 3 years, I have traveled throughout Japan for extended periods over 16 times in 12+ years. Doing business, having a best friend and living with his family, doing home stays, and with a brother and and sister-in-law living there... and HERE is where we go for everyday, ordinary food done correctly and priced fairly. Akai Hana (Rest Japan) does have a good bento, but its expen$ive for what you should pay. Service is weak, I grant that. Those that have spent a good amount of time in Japan and yearnng for a katsu-don or noodle bowl fix - go here. Reservations are easily made, they don't advertise much at all, so rarely crowded. Elitists won't like it - they should go to asian-fusion restaurants like Haiku or pay big money to feel good about their food and atmosphere at Akai Hana. Out to impress friends, don't come. Want to eat like everyday an salaryman and his family in Japan? Come here now! Pros: Fair Prices, Comfort food done right, easy to get in on Sat Night, above average sushi Cons: Slow Service, and YES on the advice don't bring a date and sit at the Sushi Bar, sit in dining area more
