Over an hour wait for a pizza 8/19/2008

We brought friends from out of town to the midtown Chicago Fire. I was the only person who had been there before; last time, I wasn't exactly bowled over by their pizza but thought the restaurant itself was satisfactory. This time I was extremely dissatisfied with the level of service and the wait time. We arrived at about 8pm (on a Monday evening) and were seated immediately. Drinks were brought promptly and we put in our order, a large deep dish pizza with Canadian bacon and pineapple. We were fully aware of the 30-35 minute cook time, but still had not received any food by 9pm. At that time we were informed by our waiter, Parul, that it would be "about 15 minutes," so we ordered another round of drinks. After a few minutes he came by to let us know the pizza "came out, but wasn't quite right" and would be another 5 or 7 minutes. (I can't imagine what could have been wrong with the pizza, after that long, that could be fixed in the next five minutes.) The pizza itself was, again, satisfactory. I can only assume the waiter forgot to put in our order and didn't bother to let us know until we'd waited for an hour, but it wasn't exactly busy that evening. If that were the case, he could have at least let us know when he realized his mistake and brought us something to munch on. We would have ordered appetizers if we had known we wouldn't be eating for an hour and a half. Needless to say we did not leave a tip, as we instead paid for a second round of drinks we didn't plan on ordering. Pros: Ambience is good and food is fine. Cons: Long wait and unprofessional staff. more
