My dog Fletcher started urinating blood last Saturday and quickly became lethargic, I brought him to our regular vet, Dr. Zgoda at Otterkill Animal Hospital. To make a long story short, by Sunday afternoon, Dr. Zgoda recommded I bring him to Oradell (an hour away) because he was not technically equipped to deal with his suspected diagnosis. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was wonderful. I was a little taken aback by the way they made us sign an estimate for $3-$6k before treating Fletcher, but we just wanted our dog to be okay. He was diagnosed that evening with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA.) This is a horrible disease with a 50% mortality rate, even with treatment. Dr. Kepping was assigned our case and really cared for him so well. She was compassionate and communicated with us every step of the way, making sure we always knew what was going on with his treatment and recovery.
