great patio 7/17/2008

The patio is the highlight of Siena. They have been lucky enough to score this primo spot in Castle Rock where not much happens after 9 pm on any given night. You take a well-planned patio area combined with Italian food and people come running. Unfortunately their Italian food is just not good.\r \r I have eaten at Siena a few times. My first experience involved their Ravioli, which was WAY too salty. My friend's pasta dish was exactly the same. The service was OK, although our server seemed a little bit confused, nice, but confused. I chalked this up to the restaurant being relatively new. Several months later I went back. I ordered the caesar salad (knowing to stay away from pasta). Ugh. Horrible Caesar salad. The dressing tasted bad, much too creamy and no flavor. They claim their dressing is homemade. I believe they are trying to stretch their dressing out by adding mayonnaise, possibly, which does not belong in a caesar dressing. The Romaine that they use is pure ribs, absolutely no green at all, which coupled with the very creamy dressing made this salad truly unappealing, visually. Some appetizers are OK (I'm thinking bruschetta is fine, but that isn't hard), while others seemed really scant compared to their price. The stuffed mushrooms tasted fine, I do remember this.\r \r Overall it was not a great experience, but with the lack of Italian restaurants in the area (don't even ask about La Dolce Vita up the road towards Castle Pines), who really is going to know what good Italian food is? It's too bad that they didn't name their restaurant ""Sienna"" (the English spelling) instead of ""Siena"", since that would be a more accurate description of their food - the English version of Italian. Pros: decent patio, center of town location Cons: food is mediocre Italian more
