Three members of Meetup?s Thrifty Gourmets and I field-tested Pukk on Tuesday, July 22nd at 7:45 PM. The young man at the cashier?s station did not greet me, but pleasantly acknowledged me as I entered the restaurant. The restaurant had held my reservation. I was seated promptly. Our waitress did not introduce herself, review the menu for us or highlight the day?s specials, but was quietly friendly and competent. I started my dinner with the very refreshing and flavorful ginger and sake drink. My fellow diners and I ordered and shared the Spicy Spring Roll, Eggplant Salad, Thai Suki, Pineapple Red Curry, Spicy Eggplant Tofu and Duck Basil. These orders were delivered promptly and correctly, and were presented attractively. Our table was quite small, however, and soon became crowded with the various platters. Virtually all of the dishes were tasty and satisfying. A number of them were nicely laced with hot pepper. Drink+shared entrees+tax+tip=$20/person.
Pros: Tasty food; lively atmosphere; well-executed interior design
Cons: Small tables; perfunctory service
