My husband and I have been frequenting La Fuente for over 12 years., before the numerous expansions. We go there at least once a week. It was our favorite Mexican restaurant. We have noticed a gradual decline in friendlyness, service, and food preparation. We have owned restaurants in other states, so , we know quite alot about the restaurant business. We think it is cheesey to charge for refills on soft drinks. It cost them about 10 cents. The biggest gripe we have is their new deceptive practice of tipping. They have added a service charge onto your bill, which unless you look carefully you don't see at first. Our waitress didn't bother to tell us aboout it either, When they bring your credit card receipt to sign, they again have a blank space for the tip. If you do not notice this you will be charged 15% and then another 20% if you are as generous as we normally are. When we questioned our server about this practice, she said that we look at the people, and if they look like good tippers, we will tell them to ignore the service charge, otherwise we say nothing. We are in our 50's well dressed, and white coller professionals, but, she evidently misjudged us. Guess what they got their lousey service charge in stead of our normal 20%. When we asked to speak to a manager, he wasn't there . I find that also unusual as the place was packed. If I ever go back I will tell everyone I see to check their bill. The people above are right, it is a more enjoyable experience at Botano's up the street.
