We recently ate at the Kapalua Sensei location- It was highly recommended and we were really excited. I am sad to say it was pretty disapointing- The hostess was perky enough, however our server Michelle wasn't interested in providing hardly any service, hospitality, eye contact, let alone Aloha Spirit- We are in maui after all.... The food was generally good quality except for the very sinewy Ahi Tuna in their highly publicized crispy panko crusted tuna roll, ( save that to chop up for spicy tuna please) and what about the fact that serving farmed salmon as sashimi is really just like eating a whole bunch of antibiotics- When I enquired about an glass of riesling to go with some spicier food I was told with an uncaring shrug that there was only 1 on the list- ( normal, but you don't have to be rude about it- I'd just like to know what it tastes like without any attitude please) My dining companions' beer glass was removed from the table with half a beer left in the bottle still....well maybe that was more appropriate. It was basically the service I'd expect from a dive bar anyway. P. S. can we talk about the overabundance of the Thai Sweet Chili sauce? It's Thai- not Japanese!!! \r
Pros: If you just have to have some sushi without leaving Kapalua
Cons: Lazy, bad service, lots of thai chili sauce..... :(
