I have been following the Citysearch reviews of Porterhouse for a while, piqued by the several discount letters I received in the mail from the restaurant. Although reviews are pretty ""mixed"" here, I decided to try it for myself last night. It was a fantastic evening! Our group of four ordered the prixe fix meal and everything was spot-on. Agree with the reader that said the onion soup was hot - scalding! But once it cooled down (and it did take a while), it was very tasty. Great bread enhanced by the various dipping sauces: excellent house-made olive tapanade, loved the roasted whole garlic for spreading. Main dishes were one rib-eye, one bone-in NY and one shared 20 oz Porterhouse. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the porterhouse was delicious. I've eaten at most of the high-end steak houses in town and this was comparable. Sides were also tasty: nice touch of nutmeg in the creamed corn, fries were awesome and garlic mashed potatoes not too garlicky (I skipped tasting the steamed brocoli - not a fan). Deserts were the apple tart (very good), creme brulee (okay) and chocolate lava cake (incredible!). At the end of the meal, I mentioned our friends had just gotten engaged and the waiter brought out the cotton candy (with a candle) AND four glasses of champagne. Here's what makes Porterhouse Bistro so very easy to recommend: the check! Four dinners, eight cocktails, salad, great steak, wonderful sides, desert, champagne - under $200. You won't find that at The Palm. We will be returning again soon.
Pros: Steaks, PRICE PRICE PRICE
