When we hired a "professional" painter that states "meticulous detail" on her business card, we expected someone that could paint at least as well as the average do-it-yourselfer.
We asked for the nail holes in the wall to be repaired...this was not done until after the walls had already been painted. There was paint spilled onto the tan carpet and splatters throughout the room. There were paint drips on the wall, paint on the trim and noticeably light paint on the walls. We could see the brush strokes around the trim. We opened the cabinet doors of the aquarium stand and noticed the walls behind that cabinet had not been painted.
We were given quite a few references of which I spoke with 3 of them and all said she did a great job for them. She did repair most of the items mentioned above. We just assumed this would not have happened with a professional painter. Also, be prepared to assist in moving your furniture
