They care about the food and it shows 3/5/2007

We had a family dinner for five at Le Hana a week ago. The sushi was very fresh-tasting and good. They really try hard with the service and the food presentation here. They have obviously spent a lot of money creating ambience - it sure feels more like a restaurant you would find in the Pearl District, Seatlle, or San Francisco than they typical chain restaurant that we get on the far westside of Portland. Prices seemed reasonable for this kind of restaurant, but it's not a place you'd go for bargain food.\r \r One of my sons ordered a chicken dish. When the waiter brought it out with the rest of the food, she apologized profusely about how the chicken was over-done, and that they would be bringing him another serving that was done correctly. Being a teenager, he scarfed the entire first serving, and then ate the entire second serving. He agreed that the second dinner was better. Afterward, the chef came out and spoke to him. I was really impressed by that.\r \r I brought a bottle of wine from home for this dinner. They charged a $10 corkage fee, which was fine with me. The waiter was a litle flummoxed by how to handle this, but in the end it was fine. Why don't more people bring their own wine to restaurants here? I started doing it after spending some time in Australia, where the practice is pretty common. It's not about being cheap (although it is about value). Come on Porltand diners - back me up on this!!\r \r Bottom line, we'll return to Le Hana soon. Pros: great sushi, great ambience particularly for the location, they care about the food more
