I've worked in restaurants my whole young adult life....and I have never felt the need to warn people about a dining experience before (and I have dined out at a lot of places) but a dinner at Fred and Steve's changed everything. If you like a tasty Ceasar salad, or house.....this is the place......but that's about as far as the compliments go. The prices are comparable to an upscale steakhouse, but the quality is no where near comparable...there is no difference between what Fred and Steve serves and a $9.00 Porterhouse from Stop n' Shop. No Joking! It pained me to pay $40 for it. The place is a rip off, they add insult to injury by charging $6 to $9 for mediocre sides (a la carte menu). The salads are huge, I guess they are hoping you fill up on those and don't notice that the rest of your dinner stinks. The wine and drinks are very expensive and the service is slower than the speed of smell. My husband's steak was served to us ice cold, and everyone's side sauce was sitting for so long, a skin had developed over them. We all asked for new sides and sent my husband's steak back, only to be served the same steak again, this time it was not medium/rare as requested, it was well done. We had no appietizers and an average of 1 drink per person and it ended up being $65 per person. Normally, I wouldn't blink at spending $65 per person at a steak house, but Fred and Steve aren't even close trying to pass this one off as a steakhouse. Fred and Steve, don't quit your day jobs.
