Ahh, redemption! We visited this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday night; but not just any Sunday night. This particular weekend we spent Friday night happy hour at a very disappointing place and left another restaurant for lunch that same weekend after waiting over 45 minutes for a salad (with only two other tables in the place occupied) and extremely uninterested and uncaring staff. Needless to say, expectations were not at their highest. Fortunately for us, however, Screen Door turned out to serve us one of my favorite meals in Portland ever, and at a reasonable price to boot! The menu is great. ""Southern"" cooking, yes; but varied enough to have something for everyone. The waiter may have been the most knowledgeable server I have had in years - without being pompous or pushy. I had the Jambalaya special, and my boyfriend had pulled pork. I never order barbecue (which is why I didn't) because I have very specific likes/dislikes when it comes to barbecue sauce. I took a little bite of my boyfriend's sandwich and I was actually extremely, unapologetically jealous! Not that my entree was not fabulous - it was - I just could not believe the quality of the barbecue. We received our food within 10 or 15 minutes of ordering. It was hot, juicy and oh so delicious. Just reminiscing about it now, I am salivating... We will go back - and very, very soon, I am sure.
Pros: Amazing Food; Upscale (yet casual) Atmosphere; Exceptional Staff
Cons: Not open for lunch weekdays; pricey drinks
