My girlfriends and I have always loved Trocadero. Amazing cheese plates and drink specials. The outdoor dining area is fabulous. I try to recommend it as much as possible.... until recently.\r
I recommeded Trocadero to some friends of mine and asked them to meet me there. We arrived at 6:50pm and were immediately asked to see all of our ID's. I advised the hostess we were here for dinner and wanted to be in the dinning area. They showed us to our table, gave us menus and then 10 minutes later they were kicking us out. The hostess came back to the table with a manager and stated since not everyone was 21 years old we had to leave. I was in shock. I never heard of this before, especially this early in the evening. She stated that their liquor tax is lower if they do not have minors in after a certain time and that a sign is posted at the door. This sign is a hand written tiny piece of paper by the door.\r
Again I have always enjoyed this restaurant but this rule is a little odd, especially so early in the evening. And the embarrasement of my guests being escorted out was wrong. The hostess should have advised us of this policy when she was checking our ID's. \r
My suggestion would be that they get a bigger sign and politely tell people this policy when they first arrive.
Pros: Great cheese platters and late night specials
Cons: After 5:00pm they only let people who are 21 years or older dine there
