don't go! don't eat there 1/9/2011

Here's the deal. First off the menu has changed so many times it has no personality. The food (currently) is a wannabe upscale fine dinnig along with the prices. Who wants to pay $16 dollars for a blue chez mac n chesse? At least make it gorgonzola. Go to their website (if it's even updated). I believe the hype on the brunch there is a crock of milwaukees' worst restaurant analysts. You can get a dish out there for half the price. There is so much more even the inspections fail. Don't go. Find a better place to impress. more

Charged my card 3 times, expensive, hidden charges 7/7/2010

This place has been renovated six times. One would think that it would improve at least slightly, but the overall experience just is not worth the money that you could spend somewhere else. The food is average, at best. The menu is pretty scant, and the prices are high. The drinks are especially costly, and they are always trying to upsell you to the next highest liquor. They don't tell you anything costs more. For example, if you ask for a side of ketchup, that costs you .75, but if you use the ketchup on the table, it's free. The service is SMOTHERING and sloppy. When I ate there, they charged my card THREE times for one meal. They were three different amounts as well. I had to then wait until the money was credited to my Visa, $150! The sever never mentioned to me that she swiped my card more than once. I would suggest that you save your money and head to somewhere less expensive with better service, or take your money to an equally pricey restaurant and at least have great service. Pros: sweet potato fries Cons: service, prices, few menu choices, more

New Trocadero! 4/8/2010

I had dinner at Trocadero a few days after open. There was a nice crowd. 2 bars were open, one on the main floor and one upstairs, both pretty rockin'! They pulled away from there mojitos to make AMAZING margaritas ( from scratch apparently! ) Not only the margaritas but almost the whole menu is made from scratch!?!? you can definitely taste it!!! YUM! Pros: Awesome atmosphere, great selection and diverse menu! more

Best Brunch in Milwaukee 6/17/2009

I ate the Breakfast Burger. Awesome! It's literally a giant cheeseburger with scrambled eggs on it. I was visiting family in Milwaukee and this was my sister's recomendation. She's big on brunches so I followed her lead. Trocadero has plenty of traditional brunch options in the French style. Make sure you have breakfast potatoes with whatever you get. The Bloody Mary is better in Milwaukee than any other city in the U.S. and Trocadero stands in with plenty of options here too. Throw a couple of those down! Pros: Parking was cake Cons: Can't say, really more

Good outdoor dining; good brunch 1/9/2009

I like the restaurant for brunch and after work and weekend drinks. The summer atmosphere is great. The food is pretty good but make sure you look at the menu before dining. If you are in the mood for crepes, you will not be disappointed. If you think the menu suits your tastes, you will enjoy your dining experience. Pros: Excellent outdoor dining, good drink specials Cons: Service can leave things to be desired; meal quality is varialbe more

One of my top picks! 8/15/2008

This place is great. Having lived in New York and being from Chicago when my wife and I move to MKE we were consistently disappointed by the dinning experience. This place however was a breathe of fresh air. Good food, a trendy (but friendly) crowd we've really enjoyed the few times we've gone there. Even now with our 9 month old baby the staff is great with us and her and we've enjoyed the ""scene"" there. In fact we went there for Mothers day with my infant daughter and my grandmother and we all loved it and had a great time. The patio is a nice break and off the beaten path so you don't have to sit on a high traffic sidewalk like other places with ""outdoor seating"". Only thing I would suggest is that they should implement a no smoking policy. Pros: Good food, Good Patio, friendly crowd and wait staff Cons: the occasional inconsiderate smoker. more

Hostile Hostess and Overrated Patio 8/31/2007

We travelled an hour on a Friday for dinner here because of a reader survey saying this place has the best patio dining in Milwaukee---comparing it to New Orleans dining. One cheesy fountain, a few tropical plants and a view of the old riverbed sure didn't compare to The French Quarter or even John Hawks Pub! Our hostess was downright rude and the food so-so--highly overrated. I ordered a gimlet--not even an olive. We won't be back. Cons: rude hostess--stuck 5 of us at a table for 4--refused to get a larger space or even respond to our request-- more

Wonderful atmosphere in a great location - good drinks 4/10/2007

Trocadero is a regular haunt for me and I'm usually thrilled with food and pleased with the service. The menu is decent - try the soups and it's a great place for drinks and appetizers with friends. Their outdoor patio is one of the best in Milwaukee. \r \r One sticking point is that sometimes the food is inconsistent. The salad nicoise is a good example. I've had the best and worst experience here with this classic salad. The last time I had it, the tuna was overcooked to the point of cardboard and the potatoes were weirdly black. I would have sent it back, but I was there for a business lunch and didn't have time. And while their brunch is good (don't miss the bloody marys!) skip - no run from - the chocolate croissants. They are consistenly awful - rubbery and reheated with runny chocolate. \r \r Don't get me wrong - this is one of my fav places to hang out in Milwaukee - the atmosphere won't disappoint, the food is usually wonderful and they have a good wine list, fun drink specials and the best patio!\r \r Pros: Location, atmosphere, drink specials, appetizers, overall recommended Cons: Inconsistent food, inconsistent service more

Bloody Marys & Weekend Brunch 2/23/2007

First, I've eaten here at least fifty times (I am very experienced at eating out...). This isn't just about ambience or drinks, the food is always excellent. Traditional Parisian cafe atmosphere and beautiful outdoor patio. Nice selection of French wine and cheese plates for the afternoon or evening. Breakfast on weekends is superb. The bloody marys are excellent, with 8oz Heineken chaser in the bottle. Some traditional French menu staples as well. Get there early for weekend breakfast or plan on waiting. If you are waiting, stop in the front corner of the restaurant for the coffee bar or move towards the inside of the restaurant for the full bar and enjoy a drink before the meal. The patio is available all year and the garden is available during a good part of the year. Nice views from the patio too, old industrial/new residential. Plus you can see across the Milwaukee River to another neighborhood. The atmosphere is great. Very close to Brady St. area and convenient to downtown. Pros: Best outdoor dining, best bloody marys, best breakfast, wine nights Cons: Never really saw anything I didn't like more

Great After work Spot! 10/26/2006

Their heated outdoor patio makes this place a winner right from spring through the end of fall! The wine list is glorious. Trocadero is a good bet for an enjoyable evening. Pros: Heated Outdoor Patio Cons: Parking more
