Has the potential to be THE neighborhood place 8/7/2006

Low-key eclectic atmosphere. Attentive, friendly (but not too much so) wait staff. Fresh, uncomplicated, reasonably-priced generously proportioned, locally grown fare. I ordered an arugula salad with beets. It was lightly dressed with generous shavings of cheese. It easily fed two people. My main course was grilled salmon with New England Summer vegys. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The vegys were delicate and gorgeous without being bland. We ordered a bottle of wine, cab sav, it didn't disappoint. It cost $28.\r \r My wife says Cafe D has the potential to be THE neighborhood place we suggest friends meet us for drinks. This is particularly meaningful because we're trying our best not to be so insular - i.e. trying to cultivate interests outside of JP. Pros: Ambience instantly put me at ease. Eclectic without being fussy. Clean without being spartan. Cons: It's intimate and small. Not recommended for large parties -- unless they take over the restaurant. more
