I have dined at Cafe D three times ... \r \r The first time I ate there was when it first opened . My guests and I had to wait an hour for the table. The food was really good. I ordered the fish taco and the service was good. \r \r The second time I ate there I ended up sitting at the bar because there was a long wait for a table. The bar staff was attentive and friendly but the hamburger that I ordered was well done when I ordered it medium rare. \r \r The third and probably the last time that I ate there was in June 2008. We were seated right away but after 15 minutes no one came over to our table. We alerted one of the staff and he seemed annoyed and said that he wasn't our waiter. When the waiter did arrive, he seemed like he was bothered to have to take our order. We also had to ask to order our drinks and then had to ask for bread. The whole time the waiter was rude and aloof -- it ruined our experience dining. He was not friendly or apologetic that we were left unattended. The food was average; we ordered the lamb burger and the tuna burger. There are better places to eat in JP --- Ten Tables staff is much friendlier and the food is higher quality for the price. \r \r Pros: Good Location, Nice Ambience Cons: Rude staff, mediocre food more

Excellent food (I like them more than Bhukara), decent prices, and very prompt delivery. The staff are also very attentive in person. more

While I enjoy the food from this restaurant, I ordered 2 Perriers and received 2 Poland Springs (still), and ordered kheer and instead received raita. I will likely order from another Indian restaurant next time I want delivery. more

Excellent Indian food -- certainly best in JP. Great delivery time, special "instructions" of no coriander followed exactly, and generous portions. We'll definitely order from here again soon! more

Best Fish Tacos I have ever Tasted!!! 1/23/2008

I have to say I saw a review for this restaurant on ""Chronicle"" and was curious. The address that I found on City Search was incorrect, but we found the restaurant. Small and tight, dark and cozy. My friend Paul and I had no problem securing a table. Our waiter was friendly and quick. For starters the Fish Tacos are to die for. Everyone should be required to try this item. Next we ordered Sea Bass done Asian style with jasmine rice and green beans, and Rizzoto with shrimp, scallops and clams. Both impressive. Full of flavor. There was a small wait between the time we finished and actually received our check, but not enough time to actually complain. I give this restaurant a ""9"" on a scale of 1-10. Pros: Excellent food Cons: Wish there was more space between tables more

High quality food and relaxed atmosphere 12/19/2007

I have visited this restaurant three times with my boyfriend. We keep coming back because the food is excellent and the atmosphere is easy-going and relaxed. To be fair I must say we've only come here on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We have our favorite dishes off the brunch menu: the mussels appetizer and the salmon omelet. I also love the fish tacos. They have great loose-leaf tea. The waiters are always attentive and pleasant. The decor is really interesting, foreign newspapers on the walls, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling; it's a mix of classic and modern - very simple and tasteful. They have a beautiful bar with a t.v. as well. more

Got time? Hate kids? This place is for you. 7/1/2007

I have never left a restaurant feeling angry and hungry. And I get it now, you guys don't appreciate children-even well behaved ones. But put a sign on your door saying kids are unwelcome. Then again, why bother with a sign? Thats not your style.\r After waiting an hour for two grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids, not to mention the food for the adults, why bother with an explanantion for the wait, or a drink refreshment? How uncool.\r The restaurant was barely half full and at least 3 tables around us were served before us.\r An hour and a half later, after we politely asked what the hold up was, we got a mumbled retort about the grilled cheeses because they aren't on the menu. Ohhhhh!!!!....wait; thats your answer?\r I asked for my meal to be boxed up as my toddler had waited patiently enough and was begin to lose it and I didn't want to disturb the other patrons. When I opened up now boxed up burrito, it had been all but tossed inside, with a splat of guacamole and sourcream sinking into the cardboard. \r Nice touch cafe D+. more

A record setting restaurant! 6/3/2007

Record setting for the wait, that is. My risotto and my husband's salmon were good, but not spectacular. The arancini appetizer was better. HOWEVER, it took over an hour (no exaggeration) for them to deliver the entrees after we completed the appetizer. We saw no less than three tables completely turned during this period. After about 50 minutes of no communication from the waitstaff, we received a lame ""Uh, the kitchen's backed up..."", but no hint of an apology. If you want your meal to take up an entire evening, this place is OK, but there are many better places to go for a good meal in JP (see, e.g. Ten Tables, James Gate or JP Seafood Cafe). Pros: Food is above-average for the area (JP). Cons: Service is a little arrogant and the kitchen is wicked slow. more

Has the potential to be THE neighborhood place 8/7/2006

Low-key eclectic atmosphere. Attentive, friendly (but not too much so) wait staff. Fresh, uncomplicated, reasonably-priced generously proportioned, locally grown fare. I ordered an arugula salad with beets. It was lightly dressed with generous shavings of cheese. It easily fed two people. My main course was grilled salmon with New England Summer vegys. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The vegys were delicate and gorgeous without being bland. We ordered a bottle of wine, cab sav, it didn't disappoint. It cost $28.\r \r My wife says Cafe D has the potential to be THE neighborhood place we suggest friends meet us for drinks. This is particularly meaningful because we're trying our best not to be so insular - i.e. trying to cultivate interests outside of JP. Pros: Ambience instantly put me at ease. Eclectic without being fussy. Clean without being spartan. Cons: It's intimate and small. Not recommended for large parties -- unless they take over the restaurant. more
