Margies is a charming gem of a retro ice-cream/sweet shop. I'm not talking 'faux-retro,' either. This place looks late-50's, early 60's and has the original booth-juke boxes with hits by Perry Como and his ilk.
People expecting sterile, shiny surfaces and well-lit, mass-produced kitsch needn't bother.
People who need to be fawned over needn't bother; this place is the guy's home, and he acts accordingly -- reads his paper -- finishes his sentence, THEN looks up to see what you need.
This is the genuine article for people who are discerning enough to know what a treasure this place is. Go now before it's too late.
Great place to go when you are feeling blue -- soothing and fun. Oodles of hot fudge don't hurt either.
It's in the Logan Square area, which is very safe, despite what the rather highstrung surburbanites have been saying about it.
Pros: Ambiance, Ice cream, Chocolates
Cons: Not open 24/7
