Seafood+.............Steak- 10/23/2006

This was my first time eating at Sol Fire. It was Tuesday night around 7pm and the restaurant was empty with the exception of one other couple. The hostess hurried us to our seats and sat us down with a harsh 'here you are' of our menu's. After a quick glance over the South & Latin American flavors we decided on two entrees. I went with the Argentinian Hanger Steak, and my partner chose the Chili Gulf Shrimp. Upon ordering my steak I was surprised when the waitress did not ask for my choice of how done I wanted the meat, however with the look of the menu I assumed the chefs knew what they were doing. After a short wait our food came out and was very pleasently presented! The first few tip bites of the hanger steak were delicious...however after 3 or 4 bites my plate turned to a red, bloody sauce. The meat was sooo undercooked, and upon asking the waitress she told me the meat was so tender that it had to be cooked to the medium rare grade....this wasn't my first time eating the dish, yet alone hanger steak so I knew this to be false.....it was disappointing to let the rest of the steak go. As for the Gulf Shrimp they were prepared exceptionally well, with just the right amount of lime and chili kick to leave a tingling in your mouth! The rice and even the crispy tortilla strips toping off the shrimp were excellent!!! Personally I would not return here on having eaten the steak alone...if you like your meat cooked to anything past medium I would recommend notifying your waiter. Overall the atmosphere is dim, with Latin flair, and makes for a casual and romantic evening. Pros: Seafood, Atmosphere Cons: Steak, Service. more
