First, class rooms are pretty dirty, especially floors and bathrooms. Children's bathroom floors had urine and used toilet paper on them. Child toilet seats had urine splashes or fecal matter smeared on them. No one would clean in between uses. When soap dispensers were broken, kids couldn't get soap because alternative dispensers were not provided or were within their little reach. Other daycare centers did a much better job of keeping their classes and kids clean. On two different occasions, I saw a staff member spraying a spray bottle solution of bleach and water onto a table while a child was sitting and eating his food there. I could see wet areas where the solution landed near his plate of food and his arms! Second, I observed the lead teacher of the 3-4 year olds and other staff barking orders at the children instead of taking the time to organize the children (especially during activity transitions) and to minimize distractions.
