Jack uses the standard procedure for shortening shirt sleeves. First, he measured for the correct sleeve length, a half measurement of the yolk and continued down the sleeve to the nuckle of the small finger. He said he would add 1/2 inch for a new shirt to allow for shrinkage as the shirt sized itself. Second, he removed the cuff and the gauntlet and then cut the sleeve to the measured length. Third, he reattached the cuff and gauntlet for a finished appearance. You would never know the shirt was shortened.
Jack also told me that if the shirt only needed to be shortened less than one inch that for cost savings he would only need to remove the cuff, trim to correct length and reattach.
I have had other tailors botch this procedure but Jack is an EXPERT and can perform any alteration imaginable. TWO THUMBS UP!
