Was over in Oakland recently and happened to peer into this cozy restaurant on Piedmont Ave and decided that I needed to try this place as had also been referred. Nevertheless, this place had been touted as a high integrity food place, emphasizing fresh seasonal ingredients and flawless execution. I was not let down at all. Homemade pates, three salad plate, braised lamb shanks and steak frites were all outstanding. Steak was cooked to perfection featuring a anchovy butter over the top. The reduction served with the lamb shank was executed to perfection with a smooth silky consistency. Interestingly, possibly it was me or possibly the food, but many of the courses needed salt which impressed me in that the chefs do not seem to rely on a heavy hand with the salt to make their dishes shine. Finally, highly recommended, very reasonable, better for small parties.
