I sort of agree with one reviewer- The food was great or not so. My Shrimp wasn't good. It was over cooked and the rice was dry. However my husband's steak was a amazing. Very tender, juicy, and the anchovie butter (don't let the name scare you) was great. This was our first time at JoJo's and we did not have reservations. I believe we got there about 6:30pm on Friday night. But it QUICKLY picked up. I'd recommend having reservations. The service was great! Word to the wise- Don't sit in front of the door! more

Right on Jojo! 4/22/2006

Some of the best French food....ever! From start to finish, Jojo's service and culinary staff worked magic to make our dining experience shine. Tried three wines from an excellent list: a French White, a French Rose and an Anderson Valley Pinot, all drinking very well and perfect to enhance the evening. Trio of salads, pate, duck confit, grilled sturgeon all unbelievably simplistic in plating, genious flavor combinations and expertly executed. To finish, the walnut custard, chocolate souffle and coconut cream tart were among some of the finest items I have ever consumed on this planet. Half the sugar content of your average dessert, the flavors of quality ingredients shined through. Textures were amazing as were portions and presentations. The service was extremely attentive and anticipative, yet completely unobtrusive. Recommendations were honest, knowledge based and not at all snobby. A winner through and through, I have no criticisms. more

Outstanding 1/29/2004

Was over in Oakland recently and happened to peer into this cozy restaurant on Piedmont Ave and decided that I needed to try this place as had also been referred. Nevertheless, this place had been touted as a high integrity food place, emphasizing fresh seasonal ingredients and flawless execution. I was not let down at all. Homemade pates, three salad plate, braised lamb shanks and steak frites were all outstanding. Steak was cooked to perfection featuring a anchovy butter over the top. The reduction served with the lamb shank was executed to perfection with a smooth silky consistency. Interestingly, possibly it was me or possibly the food, but many of the courses needed salt which impressed me in that the chefs do not seem to rely on a heavy hand with the salt to make their dishes shine. Finally, highly recommended, very reasonable, better for small parties. Pros: high integrity , perfect execution, value more

Best French in the Bay 11/21/2003

This restaurant puts Charles of Knob Hill to shame. Shame on all the French restaurants in San Francisco. They should take a lesson or two from Jo Jo's. Quaint, quality, friendly, prompt, value, service, Taste: Seven qualities that every French restaurant in San Francisco lacks compared to Jo Jo's. Jo Jo's makes EMC look like a fool's dot bomb diner. Magnifique. Cheers to Jo Jo's Pros: service (the best), food (impeccable), chefs (quality) Cons: small seating more

Jojo's,one of my favorite spots, the food is always simple, but perfect. A wonderful restaurant for those who enjoy a more traditional french taste than Chez Panisse, but the same commitment to cooking with the finest local ingriedients and attention to detail. The ambiance is sensuous and cozy, with warm, butter colored walls, and plenty of small intimate corners. The service is gracefully attentive, and never intrusive. After dinner, request Chef Mary Jo's exquisite almond tart. Pros: Delicious food, Sensuous ambiance, good service more

In Great Taste, Cal-French at its Best 1/4/2003

Jojo's is one of only two Cal-French bistros that we will recommend highly and return to often. The other is Bistro Elan in Palo Alto. We live in SF, yet have no problem with driving to either location. We have found no Cal-French bistro in SF that has a comparable combination of quality, comfort, intimacy, and overall value. Simply put, we love this place! Keep in mind that this is a small and busy BISTRO with a small staff and very good BISTRO service. You may occasionally pour your own wine, or perhaps wait a short while to get the server's attention (there are only two servers from what I've seen - this helps keep the prices reasonable). Areas for improvement: expand the wine list (just a little). Can't wait to go back! Cheers! Pros: Great Neighborhood, Great Food, Friendly Staff more

Jojo is one of the well priced cuisines I've even been to. wonderful service, food and wine, very nice warm environment. yet at times, the receptionist are not very welcoming over the phone. sometimes they think they are the CEO of some big .com or something. but otherwise food is top notch!! Pros: inexpensive Cons: bad parking more

work on the rough edges 8/6/2002

Jojo is well on its way. Before it becomes the "10" that others have posted the restaurant needs to work on some things. The servers had an attitude which left me thinking that they were unhappy with their jobs. It appeared that the hostess was left to clean up the mess once the check was brought. The food was hit or miss. I've had a wonderful arugula, fresh fig and goat cheese salad. Entrees I've had (visited Jojo twice) have been less than memorable. The decor is beautiful. I wish them the best as they strive for consistency. more
