No question that this is one of the more beautiful restaurants in Los Angeles. The Cathedralesque ceiling has been beautifully restored, along with the antique bar. The old aphorism, ""They don't make 'em like this anymore,"" definitely applies.
Still, though, the atmosphere just doesn't match the space. The room is often half empty, and the crowd is largely itinerant--you'll almost never see a familiar face here. There are no regulars. The place just doesn't inspire that kind of loyalty, because the owners don't know what they want it to be.
