As a Cape Verdean American, I loved this museum. It brings together so many elements of our culture and presents it beautifully. The space is small, but there is a lot to keep you there. For those of you who don't know, Cape Verde is an island nation of the coast of West Africa. it was once a Portuguese colony. Many Cape Verdeans are mixed African-Portuguese and they migrated here to work in whaling or on the cranberry bogs of Cape Cod in the 19th century and later because such a large community was already here in New England (Boston, Fox Point, New Bedford, Wareham and East Providence). This museum shows you the history of the immigration- aboard old yachts and whaling ships, as well as the trades of the people once they arrived. And there are sections on art, music and sports. They also have a very nice library and the staff there are incredibly helpful about looking up family names or history. more
