On Saturday,September 16th , my A/C unit stopped pumping cold air . On Sunday I called a few companies and decided to go with Penguin Air. I figured they were honest since they were associated with Channel 3&5. Biggest mistake of my adult life . Zeb Spencer was the technician . He seemed knowledgeable and went up on the roof . He said the system was void of Freon(R22). He said he could check for a leak and refill the system with some stop leak , that he would put and some ultra violet dye to see where the leak was $1000.00 . I told him I would pass and give him his $99 service call . I explained to him that I had been off work since November last year with congestive heart failure and in Bankruptcy to save home .This was my first full check and I could not give it all to him . So when he came down off the ladder he told me he could lower the price to $600.00 he then went down to $500.00 because of hardship. He had told me on the roof that everything looked okay otherwise . So I agreed to let him do the work .
This is a paperless company , so everything is on his cell phone . He wanted my credit card instantly , I have never paid anyone up front but he seemed to want it first I was not given any reason . He me sign 4 or 5 signature pages on his phone . Never showed me any type of documents . Told me he would email me everything. By the time I got to the back of the house , he was already filling the unit with freon. I was very surprised because he had done nothing to find the leak . So he came down and said he put 8.9 pounds of freon into the unit and still didn’t have good pressure or temperature. He went up and put a cap on something and stated he was going to look for the leak and the ultra violet dye . He came back down as I stood in doorway expecting some sort of explanation , He drove off . The unit had already stopped working , they had my $500.00 and I had nothing.
