Dog Died after being neutured 8/10/2011

I took my dog to get neutered last Saturday, only for him to die from complications 4 days later. I'm not sure what could have gone wrong. When I went to pick up my dog on Saturday, my dog was the only one that they had to keep overnight due to a hematoma that formed during/shortly after the surgery. The next day, I was informed that I could pick him up and that he would be "bruised" for a couple of weeks. His scrotum was the size of a softball and his entire groan area was swollen and bruised. I was given pain medicine (no antibiotics) and told that he would be better in a few weeks. I folllowed all of the aftercare instructions and even though my dog didn't seem himself, I trusted that he would get better and I just continued to monitor him. When I arrived home this evening, I found my dog laying in his kennel, struggling to breathe, his tongue was white and he was limp as I lifted him up, I immediately rushed him to emergency, but he died in my arms, right before I made it. When I arrived at the vet, they informed me that he'd passed away and that the results of his neutering surgery was all but normal. They asked if I was given antibiotics at his release, and I regretfully had to answer "No." I feel so stupid that I didn't ask a ton of questions and that I trusted what was told to me. I will never do that again. I would have rather spent the extra money to ensure that my dog's surgery was completed properly. My dog Jack was a part of the family and it's difficult to write this, but I'm not sure what may have happened and I just needed to express my thoughts.....I am in despair. Hopefully, no one else will have to go through this. RIP Jack, we'll miss you. :( more
