Billing Factory and Extremely Unprofessional 4/21/2009

We had a terrible experience with Dr. Keuer's office. This office appears to be solely focused on generating revenue. While Dr. Keuer recommended against surgery for our son's condition, he stated that some form of treatment was medically necessary due to the sensitive location of the condition. The treatment consisted of a twenty second application of a topical ointment which we were required to remove two hours after the office visit. Notwithstanding the fact that we did not pursue surgery, we received a bill from Dr. Keuer's office for a surgical procedure. When questioned about the characterization of the treatment, their office claimed that they were required to categorize the treatment as surgical. We asked our insurance company to look into the matter. Our insurance company (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) indicated that our insurance would cover the treatment if the doctor's office revised the bill to correctly reflect the basic/routine nature of the visit/treatment. The doctor's office refused to work with the insurance company. Because of the black hole that is our healthcare industry, we opted not to pursue the matter further and paid the bill in full. The doctor's office cashed the check as payment in full (as was indicated in the correspondence that accompanied the check) and then claimed that there was a late fee. Good grief, who thought that a doctor's office could make a used car salesman look good. In short, this office is a racket. They should stick to purely elective procedures so there is no confusion that they are simply interested in maximizing the fees and fleecing the patient. more
