Who needs New Haven pizza, Zuppardi's in the best! 10/25/2008

I've been going to Zuppardi's for 40 years and it has consistently been the best pizza ever! Their recipes and ingredients have remained the same and the quality is always great. The best part about going to Zuppardi's is that it is family owned and operated. You can be sure you'll always see family making the pizza, which promises they will taste great all of the time. They have also just introduced take out dinners, soups and sauces! Now you can take the same quality that they've instilled in their pizza and bring home a quality meal for the family. My favorite is their Broccoli Rabe and Sausage Soup...My family goes crazy over it!! I can't drive by Union Avenue without stopping. And probably the best part is seeing Lori or Cheryl there. They always make you feel at home, like a family would! Pros: Pizza is great, Lori and Cheryl and their families are always there! Cons: Wish there were more locations! more

SCREW THE REST ZUP'S IS THE BEST!! 10/10/2008

If you want great pizza with a family atmosphere then this is the place to be.. also they are remodeling and it looks great, they kept the classic style of a New Haven Pizzeria and touched it all up, make sure you tell your kids about the picture on the wall of Grandpa and Grandma Zupardi, if they hadnt started this place i would have to take my family to Pepe's... where there one HUGE difference, at Zups the entire family still works there, at any given time 90 % of the people working there are family, or have been accepted as an honorary family member. Compare this to (the great?) Pepe's, where they sold the place and have been opening up other stores faster than a Starbucks, and take a look at who's making your pizzas, nope its not family, wow its not even Americans, its ALL mexicans!! now i know they work for cheap but is Mexico really known for there pizza..?? Zup's is happy with there location and don't seem to wanna sell anytime soon, they wanna make good pizza for there community. If you ask me there doing a damn good job about it. The only downside to this place is the service. they have women that are probably aunts or cousins of the family so I can get that, but they sure arent looking to make your experience a memorable one. although they do have a guy who waits tables sometimes and he was fantastic, but I haven't had him since... For all my pros there had to be a con, as long as the beer is cold and the pizza stays the same, but maybe just maybe, retire the waitresses and drop some applications at H00TER'S, they'll give better service, and if they dont, they customers wont care!! Pros: PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA, and talking to Cheryl Cons: the waitresses!!!! more

Tradition 8/27/2008

When I was a kid, my dad used to run the pizza booth (fried dough) at the St. Lawrence School carnival down the block from Zuppardi's. We used to get all our dough and sauce from Zup's. I would always have to run and meet Mama Zuppardi and help her bring over extra dough and sauce.\r \r Those were the days.\r \r I love Zuppardi's Apizza. It's been a staple in my family for many years. I live in Brooklyn now and still haven't found any pizza that rivals these great joints in the New Haven area. And when I come home, I go to Zuppardi's! Pros: Great crust, sauce and ingredients. A knock-out pie! Cons: I don't work the carnival anymore. more

FORGET NEW HAVEN, ZUP's IS IN WEST HAVEN!! 1/10/2008

Alright, I have tried all the great pizza places, Pepe's, Sally's, Modern, and of course Zup's. If I could only go to one, it would be Zuppardi's Apizza. Tonite my wife and I went there, as we always do, our waiter came up to us asked how our new year was going and if we wanted some drinks. After he got our drinks he came back and ended up chatting with us about the entire history of Zup's. Any night we go to Pepe's or any other place, the waiter throws down the pizza and we won't see him until we need out check. When our pizzas were ready they came out hot and steamy and our waiter said, ""WOW, now that looks like a damn good pizza!"" He was right, as always, super food, excellent service, and an amazing atmosphere. From now on my wife and I will be going to Zup's on Thursdays so we can get the same waiter. Thank you Zupardi's for always being there, thank my waiter too...\r Paul Riccitelli Pros: great food, excellent waiter, reasonable price for the amount of ingredients Cons: no delivery, the waitress's slowww... more

Great pizza in the country, wonderful family business. 6/23/2006

I moved to Colorado in 1999. This is the restaurant that I miss the most being out west. I went there once a wk as a child and remember all the fun times and the great pizza. I visit Connecticut once a year and our first dinner in West Haven has to be at Zuppardi's. I enjoy it and so does my family. I know you will to. Pros: The pizza is great. The staff is wonderful. Treat you like a member of the family. Cons: The parking lot is small. more
