As Good As It Ever Was! 2/22/2009

This is my first time writing a review, but I had to write after having experienced a wonderful time there on Feb. 20, and then noticing the hatchet job someone else wrote about this place. We had a Birthday party with 13 people, and the food was INCREDIBLE!! From the goulosh soup (which I HIGHLY recommend) to the various entrees (most had the Jaegerschnitzel, Wienerschnitnel, Sauerbrauten, or Salmon), all the dishes came at the same time, were all hot, and everyone RAVED about the quality AND quantity of their various dishes. The service was great, and noone had an empty glass the entire evening. The reputation of the place is well deserved, and in my opinion, they are as good as ever. Definitely worth the trip for great food, at a decent price. By the way, I do NOT have blond hair OR blue eyes. Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, & AMBIENCE Cons: Meter Parking more

Highly Over Rated 12/11/2008

I'm late in placing this review but would be remiss if i didn't. I went here for my Birthday in April of 2008. It had been a long time since I came here looking for a good meal. Boy was I dissapointed! I expected the service to be bad as usual. (It seems they only give good service to you if you speak german or have blond hair and blue eyes at this place). The main reason for me not coming here often in the first place. But now the FOOD is bad! The Bratwurst was and Kassler Ripschen were cooked terrible! The ingredient quality has gone down hill. Everything about this place now screams budget cuts and cheapness. What a shame that another great German restaurant in queens has gone down the drain. Pros: Ambience Cons: where do I begin? more

German food landmark in Queens 8/15/2008

A great meal every time for the past 30 years. The Service can be excellent or just fine depending on the staff, but delicious food every time. Pros: Great food and ambience Cons: Service might be off sometimes more

Great food, bad service 8/6/2007

Have been going to Zum's for over 20 years! Food is delicious, especially the Jaeggerschnitzel!Crispy ,tender and a Big portion.17 of us were there for Mom's 80th B-Day. The service was absolutely horrible.Got 2 tiny family style vegetables. No water, wasn't offered any drinks at all.Last two times service stunk too! We are seriously considering not going there anymore. How sad for us! The food is quality but service is not. The waitress came with pad in hand and just looked at me, so I assumed she wanted to take my order. It's not cheap to eat there either. Almost $600.00 with hardly any liquor. I'll miss the goulash soup so peppery and hot stick to your ribs goodness. If only management would shape up their help. Remind them why they have jobs.\r Pros: excellent food Cons: bad service more

Food is good but appears to be mismanaged. 12/3/2006

A reservation was made several days in advance, but we still had to wait more than forty minutes to be seated. The food was good. Had a little mishap when a waitress serving another table accidently spilled a large beer on another diner and my coat. No big deal and the waitress did apologize and told me to send a cleaning bill to the restaurant. I know she was embarassed and I felt bad for her. I am not concerned about the coat or cleaning bill. However, considering the delay in seating and the mishap, I really though a manager should have at least offered to get us a drink. The food may have been German but I do not think the management style was. I'm sorry to say that the next time I crave German food which I happen to love, I will go elsewhere. Pros: Good style of food that you can't get everywhere Cons: unattentive management more

LIKE A BAVARIAN HUNTING LODGE 11/15/2006

You feel as if you've stepped into an old hunting lodge in Bavaria after you enter this German restaurant. A dark wood interior with crafted beams and deer and boars heads mounted on the walls. Waitresses wear traditional dirndles in this warm and cozy atmosphere. I've been to Deutschland and this food is very authentic! Huge portions (try the Jaeger Schnitzel) along with an impressive selection of fine German beer (Spaten Oktoberfest). It's hard to leave room for dessert - we were actually too stuffed the last time we were there, however, the table next to ours ordered the apple strudle and it both looked and smelled delicious! Prost! Pros: Food, beer & atmosphere Cons: Located out in Queens, but, worth the trip more

User review by bumknees3824 4/29/2006

Having gone to Zum's for over twenty years, it amazes me that the food and service continue to shine. From what started as a ninnocent date there, they have lured me to continue my visits to the point of bringing groups of twenty plus. I have never once been diappointed with anything. (other than the fact that you can only get the spaeztle on tuesdays, lol) Cons: Parking more

Amazing 4/14/2006

I've been coming here for over 4 years and leave full and happy every time! Amazing waitresses, amazing food and amazing beer! The food may seem overpriced but it's worth the money. Their home fries are to DIE for! If it's your birthday, they come with a cake and a candle and sing Happy Birthday to you. Pros: amazing service, great food more

A Little Bit of Deutschland in NYC 4/7/2006

Spent quite a few evenings enjoying the best of German cuisine, chased down by endless steams of beer. The food is sublime - from simple brauts to more exotic hunter's stew. Delicious! The desserts are also great. Don't forget to get some iced cold schnapps! Goes down easy & packs a wallop. Comments about the ski lodge are right on target. It's from another country, and even another era. The waitress couldn't do enough for us. She was quite Germanic, however. Some of her recommendations were no nonsense. What she said, goes! Pros: Food, Beer, Schnapps Cons: Street parking more

Really Good! 8/20/2005

As one other reviewer said, ""ski lodge in Germany"". This place is great. Food is good, not overcooked. Don't forget to ask for the 1 liter beers too. Pros: authentic atmosphere, good beer, good food Cons: far away more

By far the best restaurant in NYC 2/6/2003

Zum Stammtisch rules. That's all I have to say. It is the greatest restaurant in Queens and all of NYC for that matter. It's a bit far away for those fancy Manhattan people to find and thank god for it! Awesome ambience: you feel like you're in a ski lodge in Germany, excellent food: I can never grow tired of the viener schnitezel, and of course the beer. I've been at least 10 times already.... Zum Stammtisch owns my soul. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Look no further... 8/26/2002

Forget the airfare. Skip the hotel reservations. Zum serves some of the best German food anywhere, perhaps even in Germany. This is as authentic a German eatery as you will find in NY. They serve traditional German dishes with mind-blowing portions that engage the eyes and mouth in a gastronomical enent that will leave you wishing you had a wider belt. The meat dishes are always served melt-in-you-mouth tender. The more American fare has a straight-to-the-point simplicity that is always done expertly. As expected, the beer selection is perfectly in synch with the menu. The staff works the place like a finely tuned machine. One of the best treasures Queens has to offer, serving up tough competition to the better Manhattan eateries. Pros: inexpensive, atmosphere, food Cons: no valet parking more
