Having heard great reviews of Zoe, I tried it out with some friends during the Dine Around Seattle 30 for $30 special. Dinner got off to a promising start with a nice glass of ho...

Number one all around! 4/20/2007

We went to Zoe on a Sunday night with another couple from San Fran and instead of getting a babysitter we brought along our 2-year old daughter, praying that 1) she would behave and 2) the staff was cool with kids. Well our dreams came true; daughter was brilliant but the waitstaff/maitre'd, were even more so. A huge thank you for making our daughter feel special and welcomed, versus "dealt with". The food is a much bigger and better issue. We started out with the sweetbreads, rabbit, and grilled octopus. We are sweetbread fans and are loving their recent popularity in the US. Unfortunately, not everyone understands the nuances to cooking them. Cheff Scott's crew did a beautiful job; slightly crunchy on the outside while very tender on the inside. The pate was very tasty and moist and the octopus was grilled nicely. I had the halibut special for the main course and was cooked just as I requested. The english bean, pancetta, onion ragout was also VERY tasty. My husband had the braised lamb which was very well seasoned and delicious. One interesting item was the sauteed ramps (very similar to young green onions). What a unique flavor and a special treat. Apparently they are only available during very short periods of time during the spring. I will most definitely come back to Zoe and highly recommend it. Pros: excellent staff, wonderful food Cons: parking more

Fine Dining At It's Pinnacle 3/12/2007

At last, a fine dining restaurant that offers impeccable service, mouthwatering cuisine and reasonable prices that won't leave you broke. It's best to dine before 6pm because you will find nearby street parking and then only pay till 6pm. The regular menu prices are reasonable that warrants repeat visits once the 25 for $25 deal expires the end of this month. You may want to make multiple reservations this month to take full advantage of Chef's Scott's wonderful cuisines at rock bottom prices. I paid extra for two generous slabs of oregon rabbit pate that was excellent. The ricotta gnudi is simply fantastic that makes you wish italian restaurants would replace their gnocchi with gnudi. The prime beef coulet is generously served with 4 perfectly cooked medium rare beef. A generous serving of spinach with pearl onions and bacon and creamy mashed potatoes accompanies the beef. The dessert, a creamy not too decadent but perfect milk chocolate potde creme with cherries and peppermint sauce and a dollop of whipped cream is wonderful. Service is impeccable that all neighboring restaurants should emulate. Generous pour of single serving wine, prompt removal of dishes, constant refillng of water, and an endless bread supply with a plate of EVOO and balsamic vinegar to slather in. Thank you Zoe and Chef Scott for presenting a wonderful menu for the price conscious diner who seeks perfect service and quality food. Pros: Impeccable service, quality reasonably priced cuisine, the GNUDI...OMG!!!! Cons: Nothing more

Excellent Food! 2/25/2007

We spent Valentines Day dinner here and arrived 45 minutes late for our 5pm reservation (the only time slot left). The hostess was very friendly and sat us right away. We never felt rushed. My boyfriend order the seared tuna which was very good, but my duck was divine. It arrived very rare, but was so tender and flavorful. One of the best duck dishes around. They had about 7 inventive cocktails and were beautifully made. We had 2 drinks, 2 entrees, 1 side and 2 delicious desserts for $90. We were very pleased with our first time experience at Restaurant Zoe, definitely a place worth going back! Pros: Great food, good service, nice atmosphere more

Great Food, Great Service 2/5/2007

I went on a Saturday night first time ever. My date and I arrived very early thinking that we would go to a local bar and have a drink but stopped by the restaurant, and they were able to sneak us in early. The service was great! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and able to suggest items. I can personally suggest the spicy octopus for a starter, fantastic!!! The only downside to the evening was that we were seating next to a group of 10 which really increased the noise of the entire place. I would suggest in the future that larger groups not be allowed. Pros: Great FOOD, Great Service Cons: Can get loud with large groups more

Superb, in every way 12/1/2006

This place is simply the best restaurant in the entire city. I came in without a reservation on a very busy night and a wonderful man promptly greeted me and answered all my questions while he waited for the hostess to come to the front. I was given a table, not the best in the restaurant, but considering the crowd I was feeling lucky to be seated. The same man who greeted me at the front door was also my server and it was some of the best service I've ever had. Easy going and professional at the same time, never phoney, and while everyone was rushing around I never felt hurried as I asked my questions. The braised lamb shoulder I was steered to was an aromatic bowl of bliss. I could have eaten an entire bowl of just the garlic gloves and gnocci, it was over the top. I think the best part of the night was in ordering wine. My waiter queried me on everything, from what style I wanted to how much money wanted to spend. He then steered me to numerous options, confidently described them and kept saying things like "I could drink a bottle of this myself" and "that's going to be yummy with the lamb". Everything was perfect and I cannot wait to come back. Pros: Service, ambience, selection, wine Cons: Cons? What cons? more

my new favorite restaurant 11/27/2006

My boyfriend and I decided to take advantage of the 25 for $25 at restaurant zoe. The fabulous service started right when we walked in the door. The hostess & host were both extremely nice & sincere. We were seated promptly and the host was more than willing to answer the questions that we had about corkage fees & such. Our waiter was also extremely nice & attentive. He answered the many questions we had about the menu and gave us fabulous recommendations on both the food and the wine. The appetizer that we had, the gnudi, was so incredible it just melted in my mouth. The beef coulet that I had was one of the best beef entrees I've had in a long time. These people really know the true meaning of medium rare. My boyfriend's pork tenderloin was also very good. The flavors that they pair at restaurant zoe are interesting, but not over the top, just plain fabulous. The desserts they have are also very good. I had the chocolate ice cream with port cherries (very good) and little shortbread cookies (the best shortbread I've ever tasted). The decor and ambience is simple, modern, and very relaxed. This is probably one of the best dinners that my boyfriend and I have had. The staff there is very attentive and sincere. We are definitely coming back and bringing friends! Pros: everything more

The kind of dining experience we'd been looking for 11/8/2006

My husband and I have lived in Belltown for a few years and just now decided to try Restaurant Zoe. Wish we hadn't waited so long because this place had it all - the kind of dining experience we'd been looking for. Service was impeccable, the food was amazing and the ambiance was just the right blend between being trendy and romantic. We could tell the management and the chefs took the details to heart when creating their menu and service standards. Service pluses: Our table was crumbed between courses, our silverware pre-sets arrived at the perfect time, our bread and olive oil was refilled before we even realized they were out, our server was extremely knowledgable about the food and wine menu and on our way out we were thanked by the our server, the hostess and manager. Food: The pear soup was delicate and tasteful, the entrees were beautifully presented and the desserts were decadent and perfectly portioned. A+ for Zoe! Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance more

No fail!! 11/3/2006

I just love this resturant it never fails us from start to finish. The atmosphere is great... our server always has great recommendations and the food is just incredible! I love the pork with the figs and the scallop app is just amazing. Plus the space is great for all group sizes... I highly recommend this restaurant! Pros: Amazing Food and Drinks!! more

Amazing flavors! 9/14/2006

Wow! The food here is great. I had the pork tenderloin with gorgonzola and figs. Yum! My friends had the duck with cherries and the beef. All three were beautifully presented and the flavor combinations were fantastic. The atmosphere is casually sophisticated and the service was excellent. We showed up without a reservation on a full night - and instead of being snotty or annoyed, the maitre d' seemed excited to figure out how to help us. After a brief pleasant wait at the bar with one of their great drinks (sage margarita!), we were promptly seated. Can't wait to go back! more

Keep the drinks coming 9/11/2006

My wife advises me that the bartender here makes the best Cosmo in Seattle. Having repeated this message I would add that the food was equally impressive. I was more fond of the appetizers than the entrees. I Loved the corn risotto with lobster mushrooms, and the grilled spicy octopus. I've had better peking duck but the Alaskan Halibut was a treat. more

You can't go wrong 9/7/2006

Let's just say GREAT. The owner/chef really knows what he is doing. You can tell that the staff is trained very well. I am usually impressed with servers in fine restaurants when they are knowledgable and pleasant but the real test is in the bussers. Yes bussers, this is where you can tell how well a place is prepared and trained. Our busser was on top of everything, especially the small things, like even taking the salt and pepper off the table when it was time for dessert. The food was portioned perfectly and flawless taste. The drinks were not just poured, but prepared in the glass. They tasted fantastic. The only cons were personal ethic issues with veal and foie gras. Pros: A flawless staff and food Cons: reservations NEEDED more

Excellent service, especially at the bar. 7/10/2006

I admit my favorite thing about this restaurant was the extremely attractive and helpful bartender (Tom?...he had a southern accent). I would go back just to have him serve me a drink :) That point aside, the ambience is nice, and the menu is just right. I would highly recommend Restaurant Zoe if you are in town and looking for somewhere nice but not overpriced. It would be good for couples or a small group (probably not more than 6 or 7). more

Why haven't I been here sooner?!? 7/6/2006

YUMMY!!! I could not have asked for a more perfect birthday dinner with my sweetie than I had last night! Seriously, from one of the best cosmopolitans ever to the appetizers to the fantastic entrees, Zoe really had me. And, the service was great - the servers (the whole staff is involved, Chef Scott was even pouring water!) and hosts were attentive, courteous and professional, but also sensitive to our privacy and the food timing, which was not at all rushed. We had for our appetizers the morels and the pork bellies. We shared the pork tenderloin and beef courses for our entrees. All of the food was perfectly prepared and the flavors mingled in an interesting, but not over done, way. We had a very good wine with dinner, but felt that the wine list could have used a few more choices. Overall, Restaurant Zoe is a winner and we'll definitely be back! Pros: everything Cons: wine list more

Great dining and wonderful staff 5/18/2006

Visiting Seattle for the first time I was lucky to stumble on Zoe's review. A stellar recommendation was also made by a local colleague. I went for the octopus and would go back for anything on the menu. Everything we tried was fresh and unique. I'd only wished I'd saved room for a cheese plate at the end. Aaron, our waiter, gave great suggestions and we were visited by the chef and manager... nice... and gracious. Nice tight wine list as well. Pros: small plates, allowed to linger, welcoming staff Cons: it's in Seattle :-) more

Flawless 5/1/2006

I dined at ZOE on Sunday, and had an absolutly incredible experience. From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by the friendly and professional hostess, I knew we were in for a real treat. Our server provided us with great wine suggestions, as well as a great sense of humor. And oh my goodness, the food! I never thought Salmon could get any better, especially in the Northwest, but Zoe managed to pull off a top-notch dish like no other I have ever enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and dine at Zoe when your in the mood for an incredible night out. Pros: SERVICE!, FOOD!, DRINKS! Cons: one bathroom, noisy at times more

save your $ for better food & better service 4/22/2006

It's sad to see a classy city like seattle being bombarded with more and more restaurants trying to be the new over-the-top hot spots for the twenty-something individual. Restaurant Zoe is doing just this, with its over-priced food, laughable wine list, and completely incompetent and faux friendly service. Why do owners and managers feel the need to stock their restaurants with employees who are so put together with their ridiculous outfits and caked on makeup? It makes me want to run in the opposite direction. And will someone please tell the hostess that her insincerity towards the customers is truly unbelievable? I don't think i've ever been around someone as asinine as she. Pros: none Cons: price, hostess, parking more

Fabulous time... 4/18/2006

I really enjoy dining at Zoe. THe ambiance is energetic and I like the buzz of people enjoying their meal. The food is always consistent and I particularly love the Hangar Steak, Scallops and Pork Tenderloin. The service is friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The cocktails list is impressive and I love the non-alcoholic drink too. Even thought it's in the middle of Belltown it's not a see and be seen place. It's a genuinely warm restaurnat with great food and service more

Lovely! 2/8/2006

My husband and I were treated to Zoe as a wedding gift and you can be sure that we will return again and again. The food was great, the service was great, the style is great. I have to give the staff major props- they are professional and friendly. The wine list is expansive and they also have a good selection of "mocktails"- perfect for the pregnant! go soon! Pros: food, staff, ambience Cons: parking, $$ more

Incredible! 1/27/2006

I don't know what I would rate higher. The food or the service. Both were fantastic. On a busy night when the bartender went down for the count with back problems requiring our waiter to sub, there were no glitches. The owner found time to come around personally to explain the problem (which never was a problem) and again twice more to check on how we were enjoying the evening. Superb. more

Nice place 1/9/2006

Welcoming bistro setting the midst of Belltown. We were there on a busy Sat night and we enjoyed the energy in the room. The menu is small but had many interesting selections and it was hard to choose. The food was delicious and presented nicely. The service was friendly but a bit harried on such a busy night. The wine list needs a llittle attention. I look forward to coming back again soon. more

  • The Scene
High ceilings help the small space feel less crowded, but tables are slightly cramped; happily, the crowd is too busy smiling and eating to get too loud. The casual feel is dressed up slightly with white cloths and heavy tableware, but it's clear that food, not fancy decor, is the focus. Servers are supremely dedicated and informed, offering personalized suggestions with every course.

    The Food
The menu changes often to accommodate what's freshest. A starter to share is the ricotta-stuffed raviolo; rich and herby, it feeds six people nicely. The seared scallops are an ideal version of this simple dish: smoky bacon, peppery watercress and sweet, perfectly cooked meat. Braised veal cheeks are lean and tender, a textural complement to crisp pea vines and chewy spaetzle. Of the desserts, the tiny fried apple pies topped with creamy house-made ice cream are the hit.
