Zephs' Restaurant

I moved away from Peekskill after 9/11; and for the past 8 years, I have pined for two things: Zeph's and The Met. You've read enough rave reviews about the incredible fare at Zeph's, and I will spare you another food review. What will be most commendable about your dining experience at Zeph's, is that you will never, ever, be greeted by a waiter or waitress sporting facial pierces, fake nails, excessive jewelry, or cologne, who'll hand you your menus and say, "Hey Guys, what'll you have to drink?" I have no idea what that negative reviewer is talking about! I have eaten at this restaurant a few times and the food has always been amazing. I live in nyc and don't venture upstate very often, but when I do this is THE place to eat. If you're looking for a delicious meal in a cozy, comfortable atmosphere with lovely service, this is it. My husband and I read the reviews on zagat and with a 27 for food, how could you miss??? We were put off from the moment we called and when we inquired about making a reservation the woman that answered said she was quite full for the evening followed by asking how many we were and what time we were looking to dine. We ended up getting the reservation. The wine we were served was lovely and the bread basket was really incredible - the charm stopped there. My husband order halibut (I believe) and it looked like the filet-o-fish you get at McDonald's. I ordered their version of a philly cheese steak - the steak tasted like it had been sitting around for days and there was absolutely NO flavor and adding salt can't help this combination. We both took two bites of our food and pushed our plates away because we were so repulsed. The waiter never stopped by to see how we were doing instead the bus boy took our plates. Based on where we were sitting in the restaurant, I could see that the bus boy pointed out that he took away full plates of food to both the waiter and the restaurant owner and still no one came by. We ended up asking the bus boy for the check which he processed because it was obvious that the waiter and owner wanted to avoid the whole situation. I am a huge fan! The food is always wonderful and the service gracious! I have never had a bad meal here. I have eaten at some of the nice restaurants in NYC and Zeph still compares very well. The siter-brother-chef-host duo have doen a fabulous job. Make reservations in advance and enjoy! Pros: excellent food Cons: none more

This is my favorite Westchester restaurant. The warmth of the owner-host and the talent of the owner-chef make it a superb choice. I almost hate to review it for fear I won't be able to get a reservation when I need one. Any dish that requires a mixture of ingredients (cassoulet in winter, Brazilian fish stew in summer) is the best I've had anywhere. I'm a good cook, so it is hard to find a place where the food is better than home, but Zeph's is exceptional. It is always better than my best and more creative.
