Food and service left much to be desired 4/20/2010

I wanted to try this place for a while so we went for dinner on my birthday. First of all, I did not realize there was more than one entrance and walking into a bar wasn?t what I expected. They told us to go down the hall to the dining room. They seated us quickly and gave menus. Our server was ?Mary Beth? (though I don?t believe that is her name). They gave us a basket of chips and salsa. We ordered drinks and guacamole (both were very tasty) which came quickly but it took about 20 minutes for the black bean soup to come out. I wanted the Burrito Martita but they were out of artichokes and spinach so instead I got the Combination fajita and my fianc? ordered Camarones al Chipotle (shrimp saut?ed in chipotle sauce). The shrimp was cold and undercooked and the sauce tasted like mayonnaise. He told the server the food was uneatable. Her answer was and I quote ?and?.? When he asked for something else she reluctantly agreed but said we would be charged for the more expensive meal. (Shrimp was $18 the fajita he got was $14.25). This was not a big deal; I understand that small restaurants have to survive. When the check came we were charged $9 for guacamole I thought was $4. When I showed it to her on the menu she said she charged me for the dip. I mentioned there are two prices and that she did not ask me which one I wanted. I realized that I was fighting a losing battle and paid the $60 overpriced check and went home knowing they would never get my money again. She was indifferent and was glad when we left. Pros: Great Margarita and Guacamole Cons: pricey, bad service, mediocre food more

One of the worst restaurants in Baltimore 4/13/2009

This is one of the worst restaurants that I've ever visited. The food was inedible - slimy meat, tasteless sauces, mushy vegetables - and the service was abysmal. I would never go back to this restaurant. Cons: Terrible food more

amazing restaurant 2/3/2009

when i stept in the restaurant i was amazed at how mexican it looked i liked it .Its out or in doors. The food is delicious the empanadas every thing. MY whole family loves the chips with salsa not too spicy.i give the restaurant a 100 /100 because its not too expensive ,food is great ,and has really good like mexican feeling Pros: ambient, parking, everything Cons: its not opened until 1am more

Inedible, very fatty, lukewarm, and bland. 7/31/2007

I chose Carnitas as my entree. For a 15$ entree I was expecting pork that wasn't the fatty rind that would be discarded from a better cut of meat. This was the reason that the carnitas did not come with shredded meat as they normally do- you cannot shred fat. As far as the salsa that was served it was nothing more than canned crushed tomatoes that had been warmed and a sprig of cilantro added. White rice with frozen peas and corn is not mexican rice. Nothing was remotely spicy. Pros: cute, kitchy decor; waitstaff is friendly, no wait Cons: food is inedible more

Great Traditional Mexican Food 11/16/2005

Looking for something more than just great fajitas and burritos? Zapata's has a great menu with traditional mexican choices, along with fantastic versions of the texmex items. I've had almost everything on their menu and loved it all. My favorites are their Tamles and their Chicken Mole. If you really like interesting Mexican food, this is the place to go. The lunch menu has many unusual and delicious choices also. They have a lively bar in back (but not visible from the dinning area) also. I've also never had to wait for a seat and they have friendly and prompt service. Pros: exciting menu options, never crowded, great food more
