We found this quaint restaurant one day about a year ago and it quickly became one of our weekly lunch spots! Yen and his wife are the best! The food is out of this world; always hot and fast, full of flavor and authenciity. They have forever ruined me for any other chinese food restaurant! I was very dissatisfied with all the chinese food here in Charlotte UNTIL I searched online and saw the reviews of Yen's. Everyone was right! The food was delicious! One thing I noticed here maybe because it's the south and I'm from north originally was that all the fried rice is not that good, but even Yen's fried rice is great. How you ask? Well their food isn't just the main ingredient like chicken or rice and nothing else but they include the extras that other restaurants skimp on such as peppers, garlic, onions, carrots and even include pineapple (and lots). The staff is superb, they are always busy seeing that you are satisfied and have everything you need. I would highly recommend Yen's as they will be my place from now on. My husband, children and I discovered this WONDERFUL neighborhood establishment the first week we moved to the Charlotte area. It's been a regular on our list since July 2005. The clientele are clearly returning satisfied customers. Jean, Yen and their sons are friendly and delightful...more like old friends than proprietors. The staff is courteous and skillful. The ambiance is as suitable for a romantic date as it is for a family night out with kids. The food is consistently excellent, well presented and always fresh. Yen and Jean are two of the most humble business owners I have ever met. They are very proud of their restaurant, their food, and their customers. All the entrees are cooked before your eyes by Yen himself. If you would like, you can sit at the bar and watch your meal being prepared. And while you wait, strike up a conversation with Jean, Yen's lovely wife. I personally recommend the fried dumplings. They are home made by Jean herself. I have been to this establishment on several occasions. My daughter even asked me to take her there for her 16th birthday. The owner himself cooks the entrees, which are exceptional. Great fresh flavor, beautiful color, and always a joy to taste. So next time you have a yearning for the flavor of the orient go to Yen's Chinese Restaurant!!!!!!! more
