Go for happy hour 4/20/2011

I love this sportsbar 4/15/2011

I love this sports bar even though I have ZILCH interest in sports. I've sat at the bar, which is spacious yet cozy, on each visit. I've visited with a girlfriend, a small coed group, and a different bf on two different visits. Each time, I happily killed a couple of hours to stop in and hang out with a couple of beers. I extra-happily enjoy appetizers at the bar if I happen to come in during happy hour. This is also a nice reward for those kind boyfriends/guy friends who accompany their female counterparts to third street. more

It was like having the place to ourselves 4/14/2011

I seem to have had a completely different experience than the majority of the reviewers on here. My boyfriend & I loved it there. Our waiter, Danny, was awesome. He said he had only been working there a couple of weeks, so maybe he wasn't jaded yet. From "people watching," we could see that we lucked out by getting him as a waiter. We took his advice on what to order and he didn't steer us wrong. What we got: Him: Calamari & Shrimp Po-boy Me: Spinach Artichoke Dip & Shrimp Arrabbiata Shared: Caesar Salad & Rack of Ribs (Yeah, we were hungry after a full day of walking around!) I didn't like the Caesar salad (too dry), and neither of us liked the coleslaw that came with the ribs. Everything else we raved about. When we come back, I would definitely reorder the Shrimp Arrabbiata or the Ribs. Try the Apple Pie shooter... I've never had a shot like it before. After eating, we went downstairs to play pool. I don't think people know about the bottom level b/c it was deserted. It was like we had the place to ourselves. more

Treat me like a person.. 4/12/2011

Been coming here for years, I love it.. They take care of the regulars. I always ask for jeff or martins section if they are there. They treat me like a real person rather than just a customer. Other places servers are like robots, memorizing their introductions and specials. Not these guy. They know wut u want before u tell them. This place is def the coolest spot on the promenade and reccomend it to all my friends. Esp for fights and games more

Consistently Yummy 4/8/2011

I've been here a few times and everytime, the experience is always the same... consistently yummy food, at decent prices, in an enterntaining environment. Fancy girly drinks are about $8-12 so a little pricey but pretty good (I've had stronger for the same price). The atmosphere is sportsbar but the upstairs has a more lowkey restaurant setting so you don't get stuck sitting next to a bunch of drunk guys jumping around and knocking their elbow into your food and they cheer on their favoritie team. BUT... downstairs is GREAT if you want to watch the game, aka. Lakers Playoff game. The have plenty of seating and about five big screen tvs with several other smaller tvs and they play the games with sound. NICE! Even though its downstairs, they still serve a full menu and there are a few servers there to take care of you. If you're coming to watch the game, its worth it to get there early... when the pregame show is still on to get the best seats. They cover the pool tables with plastic so that they can be used as additional seating. After the game, the DJ came on and some people (including myself) playing a few games in the little arcade that they have. more

Great for a night out 4/4/2011

Good night 3/31/2011

I was here on a night where they had a DJ taking requests so no game, well I think there was snowboarding on the side. The big screens were nice and the staff is quick and the drinks were good and standard Santa Monica price. They also had a promo for 2 dollar root beer flavored liquor shots that you took out of a beaker. Like in chemistry class except not caustic chemicals. So my date and I enjoyed that, the pool was good, lots of table and no one seems to mind that I overshot one. The dedication thing was cool because the music was really varied from My chem to some random euro techno. I saw these russian muscle dudes do some techno moves, so that was interesting. The DJ did have some technical difficulties like on my song but he replayed it over for me which was nice cuz if I dedicated a song and then my date didn't get to hear it....well that would suck. Oh yeah and the music video for the song played on the big screen.... some music videos btw... WTF?!?! Artistic expression has it's limits but when you're a rockstar or big time rapper or just generally in the 80s you can afford absurdity. The crowd is varied and for Santa Monica it's pretty no frills. The pool was a bit pricey, 12 dollars and hour? Some places it's quarters baby but then you also have to deal with the old captain in the corner and some bikers. So we hedge our bets! I didn't get to go to the downstairs and play games, which to a big kid like me would be fun. It wasn't a very crowded night but I'm sure on some nights it can get pretty wild. I'd definitely try it again and even though I didn't yelp it before going (my date and I kinda just winged it) I was glad I'm on this "no greasy/fried" food kick because I probably would have been sick if you guys are right about the food....So yeah dedication of a my chemical romance song... showing my former emo sensibilities, beating my date at pool and cheap drinks...Good night people and so long! more

Friendly and quick 3/31/2011

Typical sports bar kind of joint. California salad was a good healthy and tasty choice. Service was friendly and quick. The 2lb burger was a sight to behold. Seriously, I have never seen anything that horrific in my life. Table next to us ordered it and the two of them stuffed themselves and barely got halfway through. Wish I took pictures. more

AWESOME! 3/30/2011

Fun place and good food. If you are an LA native you know that there are not many places you can get food, have a bar atmosphere and just relax with some friends. Yankee Doodles fills that need for me. They have sports on everywhere, it is awesome! more

Passing grade 3/25/2011

I was turned off by the name, but this place has much going on for itself. They offer great drink selections, and the menu is pretty versatile. There is something for everyone. Pass. more

One word. Smokey. Best bartender in ever. In ever. more

Will definitely be going here from now on 3/21/2011

I usually go to the Hooters around the corner, but decided to mix things up. I will definitely be going to Yankee Doodle from now on. Their wings weren't the best, but I didn't feel like the waitress was trying to flirt into my wallet. I got really good service in a cool atmosphere. Plus the food was pretty good. I would recommend eating here to a friend. more

Always a great time 3/18/2011

I'm not really sure why YD got bad reviews - I've always had a great time here! This place is a bar/pool hall type place, so don't expect too much from the food here! I've ordered many of their finger foods and they've been just fine! more

Sooo yummy! 3/16/2011

Been here twice in a week so far and I'm loving this place! I mainly come here to play pool, there's always tables available and prices are okay ($12/ hr on weekends, $10/ weekdays) The waitresses/ bartenders are really nice here and attentive. They get your orders shortly you get your table and the service is fast. I had the strawberry shortcake for my bday, it was SOOOO Yummy! more

The place to be 3/3/2011

Huge place to watch whatever game is on. Large area with pool tables. Large bar. Decent food. The unpretentious and fun atmosphere Is what makes this place the place to be during game season.. or just to grab a beer and chill and look at the decor more

Worst management 12/20/2010

My friend recently visited this establishment on a business meeting. He was showing some of his clothing line ?Thorn? to a business associate. *As a side note this clothing line is a non-profit that uses its proceeds to provide clean water to countries such as Africa. He was told "They don't allow business to be conducted in their restaurant." So he put everything away and they sat there finishing their drinks. The manager then came back and said "leave immediately or he was calling the cops." more

horrible service 10/21/2010

service is horrible. food is ok. would never go back to ever again more

Overrated! 1/4/2010

A party of about 15 of us went there and were disappointed with the food! Not worth what we paid. Decent but could be better. Like the bar, waiter was nice. Even offered to split up the check for us (which is very rare). Overall ok. more
