YMCA of Columbia, Tennessee

Ive been bringing my son and grandkids to the YMCA for years. We have had a few disappointing trips to the Y but not because of their staff or yellow water. Its because my kids don't want to leave. I personally love the life gaurds. They have taken special care and notice of my son for years. When my son wants to prattle on and on they always listen to him. Thank you life gaurds... My son is the one who always wears Green! Recently, I called to make sure the pool was open to public (swim team practice). There was a mis understanding any my kids were disappointed they couldn't swim in the therapy pool. I spoke with the man in charge and he went out of his way to accomodate me and my kids. He was level headed and found a solution that worked for everyone. thanks to him I didn't have to leave early and the kids were able to swim as much as they wanted. I only gave one star because i HAD to. I have a list of complaints about this YMCA. Firstly they are VERY unclear to the rules. The management says one thing and the staff says another. The pool water is YELLOW...yes i said yellow! So much urine in it you can smell urine over chlorine. Documentation is so poorly executed that none of the staff knows WHAT is really going on. They make it near impossible for a mother to work out if you have smaller children as the Yplay is VERY limited and they apply rules that I am unable to find documented in ANY YMCA policies. I am truly disappointed and will be cancelling my membership. more

Everytime I visit the YMCA of Columbia, someone always uses the bathroom in the pool and I have to get out. It makes me so mad that I can no longer swim! The lifeguards are so rude and whenever I do get an opportunity to swim, they yell at me for running or something stupid like that. I can't stand the YMCA!!!! more

Problems at the Ymca are poorly handled, not well documented and improperly presented by the management. Employees are mostly young and inexperienced, and without a good management turnover seems to be high. A decline in paying membership has caused a cut in services and operating time. A non profit organization should have a leg up on other businesses, but other choices in the area are more appealing to pay a membership to. Maybe the management can turn the Ymca in columbia around but I will not hold my breath or pay for membership till things change.
