Best

I eat at this place all the time I get the service plate (salad, bake potato, mushroom gravy mmmm...) I love this place sometimes I get chopped steak its very good I would advise ...

Worst

The supermarket quality steaks are no where near worth the price you pay for them. The service and atmosphere are OK, but the price vs quality of food is a joke at your expense.

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/13/2012

Very disappointed! My family went right at opening this evening and were expecting a great experience since we have been going to WoodShed since I was little. The steak that my husband ordered was bone dry and the sweet potato was so dry it was shrunk inside itself. My son then had to go to the restroom, so my husband took him into a bathroom that was covered in racial slurs. Not something I want my children to see. It could easily be painted over or sanded down. This is not something that could've happened recently as it was covering every wall in the bathroom. Sadly, I don't think we will be visiting again considering it was a $120 bill for 2 adults and 3 children. more

Good food for the money 2/7/2012

I have been going to the Woodshed for years since I live in the area. Those who say it is too expensive don't bother to understand what they are paying for. The fact is that most restaurants in the area charge more for an entree than the Woodshed does for the entree and all the fixings including salad bar. Recent changes in local ABC laws now allow them to sell beer and wine on premises so you don't have to brown bag any more. As for the quality of the meat, the Woodshed meat is USDA graded choice or higher. When a restaurant brags that they serve Angus beef, this says nothing about the quality of the beef. Admittedly the service can be less than you may expect sometimes but you can deal with that by not leaving a big tip. And if you really like the onion and tomato sandwiches, then why are you complaining about having to pay a couple of bucks for one. Did you like them because they were free or do you really like them? Prices are going up everywhere. Get over it. I read one review where the gentleman said his filet was ordered medium well and then grossly overcooked. Are you kidding? A medium well filet is already ruined anyway. I say give them a try and be fair about your comparisons. You will be pleased. more

Low Value/ negative rating 11/19/2010

My wife and I went there yesterday to celebrate our 43 anniversary. We had been there several times before years ago. This time was a total disappointment. First we found out they have not coffee; just something called Sanka decaf that taste like colored water. Also they have no wine list, but do allow byob (not their fault, a town reg.) The major complaint was the value of the steak served, a 5 oz filet was almost $23! This may have been the least expensive cut on the menu and smallest in size; no more that 2 inches in diameter. My medium well was way over cooked. My wife and I swapped steaks since she liked hers cooked more. Also gone are the once famous tomato sandwiches on the salad bar. You can get one now for an extra $1.95!! I would not recommend going there even if someone else is paying. Did I mention they do not have Coffee? more

Wonderful place to go! 1/6/2009

I absolutely love this place. My husband and I go there for special occasions. We love it. It is the one place to go eat that we both agree on. The tomato and onion sandwichs are out of this world! more

Fun place to take the family and great beef too. 1/6/2009

This is the perfect place to go with your family. The train that circles the restaurant keeps the kids entertained and it a place that you don't have to stress constantly over their noise level. The steaks and prime rib were outstanding. more

Great Food 1/4/2009

Great steak and great service! 9/4/2008

First time visitor to the Woodshed and had my reservations at first...but they were quickly erased when I sat down. Great Filet and Prime Rib. We had a male server named Jeff who really took care of us. The combined service and steak was top shelf. Can't wait to go back! Pros: Great steak and server! Cons: None really! more

Great Service 8/20/2008

My husband and I went to the WoodShed tonight for the first time. It was recommended to us, and we went for our 31st anniversary. Our waitress, Phyllis, was very pleasant, warm, and down to earth friendly.(She even brought some fresh cut flowers to our table that a customer had brought to her.) She was informative and served us kindly and efficiently. Her recommendations were excellent, and the steaks were DELICIOUS. It was a special night out for us, but we enjoyed the casual, homey atmosphere. We even got to meet the owner, and he was amiable and friendly as well. more

Been around the world, and the WoodShed is the Best! 7/18/2008

Been to Vegas 9 times, Orlando, San Diego, Chicago, cruise ships, Atlanta, Miami, you name it. This is by far the best Prime Rib anywhere, no question. We ask for Phylis every single time we go. She offers the most friendly service and you are well pampered as you enjoy the freshest salad bar anywhere! BOYB! We like that better than paying 5 dollars for a beer! Bring a small cooler with a 6 pack, drink it all with your table for a dollar a mug. \r \r You will have the best evening you have had out in a long time! Bring your friends and family! They will be impressed! A very short drive from Charlotte, about 30 minutes! more

Amazing!!!! 4/21/2008

My family and i go there twice a year as a family tradition, they have wonderful service with food that tops their service. I've been going there every since i can remember and each time has been a memorable one more

Favorite Steakhouse 9/9/2006

Where do I begin? The Woodshed is my all time favorite steakhouse. It may not be the fanciest, but it's by far the best. They have a wonderful salad, not a huge selection of items but enough variety to make it good. Everything is fresh. The dressings are homemade. My husband loves their shrimp cocktail. The homemade cocktail sauce comes in mild or hot. Hot does mean hot, but try it anyway, the burn doesn't kill you... I promise! The steaks are to die for. No need for seasoning on this beef! It's cooked to perfection and ALWAYS tender. Sauces should be banned from even touching this masterpiece. If you somehow have room for dessert, you'll find a small but adequate selection of homemade cakes. Each is as moist and delicious as the other. If you haven't tried the Woodshed, you don't know what you're missing! PROS: Perfect Steaks! CONS: So much food, so little time... more

The Best Steak ANYWHERE 2/22/2006

You go to the WoodShed for steak. You don't go for white tablecloths and snooty waiters wearing tuxedos. I have been going to the WoodShed for 15 years and have never had a steak that was not cooked exactly as I ordered. The restauant does not serve alcohol, but if you brown bag your own they will give you a set-up. Last valentines day we had a minimum 2 hour wait. But there is a reason people put up with it....The steak IS that good! To avoid the wait get there really early or go on a weekday. Don't forget your tomato and onion on wheat sandwich I love 'em. The atmosphere is rustic. Wood floors, a toy train running on tracks overhead, and booths much like you would find at a shoney's. It is pricey. For a couple with and appetizer it could be $60 plus tip. Pros: Steak, Steak, Steak Cons: wait on weekends more

Great Food - Good Service 2/18/2006

Our group gathers at the Woodshed at least once a year around February. They don't take reservations after the Christmas season, but said there would be no trouble seating us. Even though there was quite a crowd there the last time we went...I think we were seated within a reasonable amount of time. My husband and I went a little early to get our groups name on the waiting list and I am sure that helped. The food was fantastic....We all love to eat here because of the excellent food. The name of the restaurant realistically discribes the atmosphere as it is a rustic setting. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, but most of all we enjoy the food. Pros: great food Cons: long waiting line more

Service makes it not worth going to 12/27/2005

We travelled an hour to get to the Woodshed to celebrate my grandfather's 80th birthday. We called the night before because there are 10 of us and were told that while they were out of reservations, they would be able to accomodate us. When we arrived, they put us at two different tables. When questioned, they said that they could not move the tables because they were nailed down, which they were not. Then we were told it was a liability because of the overhead hanging lights. When the manager came to speak to us, we were appalled at how rudely he treated us. I suppose that the Woodhouse is doing enough business that $200 isn't a big loss and they can treat the customers rudely. I know that I won't return there and I will warn as many people as possible that they shouldn't either. Cons: rude service more

It ain't fancy, but it's good!! 6/5/2005

There is nothing fancy about the Woodshed but they know how to cook a perfect steak. I am in the food service industry and have had the pleasure of eating steak all over the country. The best steak I have ever eaten is at the lowly Woodshed in the small town of Stanley, NC. If you decide to go, be prepared to wait because everyone in Gaston County knows that this is the place for steak. Yes, it's in Gaston County but before you stick your nose in the air, give it a try. You will be glad that you did. Pros: Great food, price Cons: might have to wait more

Best Steak 2/1/2005

We have been going to the restaurant for years because it is the best steak you are ever going to put in your mouth. Dress is casual. Atmosphere is country/rustic. Entrees are expensive ($25 plus drink, tax etc...) It is not geared for kids..no boosters and lousy kids menu. Did I mention they have the best steak I have ever eaten...anywhere in the world?!! Pros: BEST STEAK EVER more

Best Value 4/2/2003

For the absolute best meat regardless of price, eat here. The price is very reasonable for the best. Cost is about $1/oz. which is good. The famous prime rib is only served during weekdays because it takes so much attention to ""fix it right"". Pros: best meat, great value, service more
