Cleanliness Not a Strong Suit 1/23/2012

The food is pretty good but the place is just not kept clean. The carpets are very soiled which is not a pleasant start. We had dirty utensils (cheapest I've ever seen by the way), my wife's water glass had lipstick on it and there were crusty sauce stains on our tablecloth. more

Great Steaks!! 10/4/2011

My son and I had the most wonderful meal here last night. Our Charbroiled Black Angus Steaks were great! As good as the steaks I had in Chicago. Our salads were fresh and crisp with homemade salad dressing, served with warm toasted garic bread. Our waitress Anna took care of our every need. Outdated decor, but very relaxing, causual dress and great prices. Finished our meal with homemade pumpkin cheecake, Yum. Can't wait to return for the Surf and Turf! more

Very OLD AND DIRTY - Food Too Expensive! 6/19/2011

This restaurant has not been updated or CLEANED since it opened. Terrible decor and atmosphere. The food was just okay , for what it costs. The seafood is way over done. They give you a choice of two french onion soups - one without cheese, and the other augratin. Who ever has had french onion soup called augratin. The waitress argued that they always serve this soup with two options. Only Winchester, with an added cost for the cheese. It was terrible. Never will go back! more

The Best Steak and Seafood around 3/18/2011

We have been visiting the Winchester Room for years. It is a little expensive but well worth it. You may have to wait if you forget to book a reservation! THE BEST LOBSTER BISQUE IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA!!! There are a few things that are not on the menu. The sirloin tips melt in your mouth, chicken salad with homemade salad dressings. YUMMY We often purchase discount tickets for the Destinta movie theater across the street and make it an evening out. more

Ponderosa Steakhouse quality at Morton's Steakhouse price 2/22/2009

My husband and I wanted to take our grandparents out for their 45th anniversary. Our friend recommended this place, as it was close to our house and was reasonably priced as steakhouses go. Here is why we do NOT recommend this place for anything other than an overpriced steak. 1. Paper placemats, semi-broken tables, plastic salad bowls and dirty bathrooms. Someone tell the management to invest a few $$ on appearance and maintenance! 2. The food was downright average for >$20 a plate. My tuna steak was drier than the Mojave desert and other's baked potatoes were cold. The 'famous' lobster bisque was quoted as being 'too much velveeta, too little lobster"" by one of my family members. 3. Too few waitresses per section - we waited far too long for drink refills, food and the bill. Go elsewhere! Pros: Friendly wait staff Cons: Price, Ambience, Food Quality more

Yummy! 11/7/2008

I love the Winchester Room! I've never had a bad experience. They offer valet parking which makes up for a small parking lot. It is worth tipping the valet guys a couple bucks. Their steaks are juicy and very flavorful. My favorite is their french onion au-gratin! It is the best I've had and I dine out a lot. The dessert is to die for. My favorite is the warm apple pie which my waitress suggested. The service, as usual, was excellent and friendly. I highly suggest visiting the Winchester Room. You can't beat the price! Pros: French Onion, Dessert more

NOT a great place for steaks (or for good service) 9/24/2008

My husband and I visited this restaurant after hearing good things about it. The parking lot is small and cramped (along with dangerous for walking in heels, the pavement is broken and it's dimly lit!). We waited at the already small and crowded bar and were ignored for quite awhile before being offered drinks. After being seated at our table no one acknowledged us for 10 minutes, a waitress finally did tell us she would be over soon, which took another 5 minutes. (At this point I began to watch the time) We ordered a bowl of french onion soup and each of us got the New York strip steak rare. 10 more minutes go by before the hostess finally brings our drinks to the table. I ordered a carafe of wine which she set in front of me with my glass and said, ""You can pour this."" and walked off. So as we're sipping our drinks and realizing we've now been seated for 45 minutes and haven't even gotten the soup or salads. Our waitress appears and tells us that the kitchen forgot to put my soup in. We then asked if we could at least get our salads to which she seemed dumbfounded and said, ""Oh, you want your salads?"" She immediately came back with our salads and miraculously the soup. I have to say the soup was the highlight of the evening, it was delicious. The salads were decent portions, but the garlic bread was 2 tiny pieces. The Italian dressing tasted like only oil. We are now going on over an hour and finally our steaks arrive. They were done medium rare, which I can live with. But what I just couldn't even choke down was that they were dry. I'm still trying to figure out how you can dry out even medium rare. It had absolutely NO flavor. Our thoughts at the beginning of this evening was that it's a steakhouse and fairly hard to make steak terrible so we couldn't go wrong. This place proved us wrong. To top it off as we're trying to get the bill and speaking to our waitress she leaves while I'm in mid sentence to help another table. We'll never be back. Pros: ambience, french onion soup Cons: terrible serveice, terrible food, small dark parking lot more

Friendly service, best well done steaks, and scampi in town!!!! 11/10/2006

I frequent this restaurant on a weekly basis, and I must say the most impressive thing about it is its consistency. Everytime I go everything is so fresh and well prepared. I know other places have their moments but that is all that they have while the Winchester Room keeps the one constant and that is dependable quality. I am a very picky eater and I like everything well done but not overcooked and they do a beautiful job with balancing the two. Pros: Good food at a good price more

Best Steakhouse in Pittsburgh 5/9/2006

If you want to feast your eyes on something beautiful as well as delicious, then you would benefit greatly by visiting The Winchester Room. Their steaks, from first appearance have a particular luster and are the juiciest, most perfect tasting meats. Nothing tastes better than a big, thick Black Angus Steak. Throw in a piece of cheesecake with hot apricot rum sauce for dessert, a beautifully romantic candlelit ambiance, and you have the best place to eat in Pittsburgh. No matter how you like them done, from rare to well, they never ruin the steak. You will be delighted from the time you step in the door until you leave. more

Good Food! 11/28/2005

I have been to the Winchester Room on numerous occasions and have never had a bad meal or dining experience, soup, salad, steak, seafood were all excellent. The service was very good too. I would recommend the Winchester Room to anyone. Pros: Fair Price, Good Location, Atmosphere Cons: Poor Parking, Crowded at times more

Great Food 7/11/2005

I now live in Seminole Florida, but I love the Winchester Room. All of my experiences there have been great. My steak was cooked to perfection. The deserts were especially wonderful. I would highly recommend a visit to the Winchester Room. more

WHERE'S THE BEEF 6/5/2005

I no longer live in the area but have been to htis place on numerous occassions and no matter what you order, it is not done the way it should be. Order steak rare and it comes burned, order swordfish and it comes dried out. Tried the place on 5 different occassions and was very disappointed. more

Winchester Room 9/30/2004

Best steak east of the Burgh. Drinks are priced right. The strip steak is the way to go. The tuna steak not bad either. Always have good service. Not many people know about the bar menu for a good steak sandwich or missteaks. Pros: steaks, service Cons: , parking more

Great Food at a Reasonable Price 6/1/2004

I have had dinner at The Winchester Room on numerous occasions and I have never had a bad meal or poor service. I recommend reservations on the weekends. Their best kept secret is their awesome Clam Chowder...thick, creamy, and filled with clams! The Lobster Tail will melt in your mouth! I would recommend this to any steak or fish lover! Pros: Reasonably Priced, Tender Steaks, Awesome Seafood more

sizziling 12/3/2002

When in Pittsburgh I was invited to dine with friends who took me to the Winchester Room. I have dined in many cities where beef was king or a favorite, i.e. Dallas, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Chicago, Memphis, Lexington, Louisville, Houston, New York, Boston, Naples, Charleston SC & WV, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Biltmore, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, and many more, but the medium rare Angus from Winchester Room was the tops followed by the Prime Rib in San Fran, the Rendevouze in Memphis, (ribs are their specialty though)and The Cattleman's in Dallas. Didn't have a bad steak anywhere but the Winchester was the best as to present. Pros: steaks, service, price more

Best Piece of Meat I've Eaten 12/3/2002

I'm from Philadelphia and recently went to Pittsburgh to see new in-laws. My husband took me to the Winchester Room since I love steak!! He always said the Winchester Room can't be beat, and, NOW, I have to agree with him! more

Consistently Inconsistent 10/7/2002

Very uneven dining expereince. Food so-so some nights, excellent others. Atmosphere is always bad. Not a place to go to impress a date. Expensive, especially considering lack of atmosphere. more
