From the reception area, to the exam rooms, there is not an inch of this place that isn’t wonderful. The genuine concern coming from each person in the facility is hard to find in any other practice. I started taking my 12 year old Chihuahua, Basco, here almost a year ago. He’s the love of my life, but not easy to handle. As the owner of a small feisty dog, it has been difficult to find a veterinarian who can care for him without him trying to bite their fingers off. The last vet we went to used 4 people to hold him down just to put the muzzle on. The moment I walked into the exam room at Whitestone Vet Care, the tech Janine put the muzzle on, no restraint needed. He was calm, relaxed, and didn’t even growl! This is very much out of character for him. The Doctors there are nothing less than brilliant. They are able to explain everything that my dog needs in the simplest and efficient way, and without making you feel like a horrible pet parent for not being aware of certain things for so long. The kindness of the staff and the knowledge of the doctors are what first inspired my love for this facility, but the exceptional care is what will make me continue to use their services. I would urge any pet parent to call them asap to give their pet the best care out there. more

I have recently brought my dog, which is only 2 years old, to this vet, and I absolutely love it here. My previous vet never informed me about the multiple vaccines that my dog should have been receiving. I am eternally grateful for this information, and the love and care they have displayed to my dog. Just after one visit I can tell that the Doctor's here want the best for my dog, as do I. Going to this vet is a pleasure in its own. I know I could not get better care any where else! more

My experiences with Whitestone Veterinary Care have been nothing but positive! I began taking my two dogs, Mickey & Harley, to Dr. Wyler and his staff when I felt my previous vet was just not solving the problem. My dog has chronic allergies, and up until now the solution had always been a ""quick fix."" By now my dogs have seen all three veterinarians on staff - Dr. Wyler, Dr. LaBella, and Dr. Valen. All of them have been extremely thorough in the examination room. I never feel as though I am being rushed out and I feel the time is actually being taken to get to the root of the problem. I would completely entrust my dog's healthcare in the capable hands of Whitestone Veterinary Care & their sister hospital Animal Medical Hospital on Long Island. more

Best Vet in Town 10/4/2011

I have been bringing my 2 ferrets to Whitestone Vet Care for the past year. Sage and Koda are always treated very well by Dr. Starkey. He is extremely knowledgeable about exotics; especially ferrets. One of my ferrets was suffering from hair loss which Dr. Starkey told me is an indication of adrenal disease in ferrets. He confirmed that she had adrenal disease with a blood test and we decided that the best course of action for Sage was to get a melatonin implant. She got her implant back in February of 2011 and she has since grown a full coat of fur and put on some weight. Although she is not ""cured"" of her disease, it is being managed nicely by this implant. I will continue to come to Dr. Starkey with any questions that I have regarding my ferrets in the future. A+ vet and also a great support staff!! more

Great Avian Care! 11/26/2010

Our birds (we have, presently, eight...) know and like Simon Starkey, the avian specialist at Whitestone Vet Care, for several years. They like him, and so do I. I also like Whitestone Vet Care. Let me tell you why for both. The Whitestone Vet Care part is easiest and shortest and clearest. This is a small storefront facility, but get past the front door and you quickly find that it is a very full-featured vet clinic, efficiently organized to deliver top care effectively. Add to this, the staff is clearly on top of things. I was last there in an emergency situation; I had texted in to the doctor that I was coming. Sharon, on the desk that morning, was expecting me. Things happened smoothly -- what I expect in a top facility. Ashley (I think I have that right...), the vet-tech assisting, was right there when she needed to be, and then moved on to her next chore. What I saw, in short, was clockwork precision. That does not, however, mean clockwork thinking. Clearly each of the people I have encountered at Whitestone Vet Care was concerned with my little birds and that concern continued after the visit, to follow-up calls and so on. So, a well run operation tucked away in an unpretentious little spot in Flushing. Add to this, they have a top avian specialist. At the top of the I-like-Starkey, reasons-why list: Dr. Starkey really likes our guys and gals. One can see this in the way he handles them. Next on the list: Dr. Starkey understands the triage issues at play in little critters. As an example, one of our guys was out of the cage, and decided to play hide-and-seek -- and got stepped on (not full on, but no near-miss either). We're way downtown, and given time of day and so on, Whitestone Vet Care really was the closest, in terms of driving time. Dr. Starkey had a full calendar, but our little guy was inserted with zero waiting time, to make sure than anything critical was found fast. In birds and small animals, this is crucial; they just don't have the reserves of larger animals. Working on down: Dr. Starkey is extraordinarily well qualified, in a field that is small and select. Board-certified avian vets are rare, even in the Greater New York area, and one correctly considers them an elite group; the test is hard, and keeping certification is hard. Dr. Starkey is board-certified. Dr. Starkey also has two terminal degrees: He has his veterinary degree from Sydney in his native Australia; he then took his Ph.D. at Cornell. While taking the second doctorate, Dr. Starkey completed his residency in avian medicine, and also was the resident in charge of day to day operations at Cornell's top-rated wildlife medical center. The result is a remarkable wealth of knowledge. That knowledge is both intuitive and learn?d. Dr. Starkey the vet, when allowed to function at the intuitive level -- that I've-seen-this-before-and... level -- functions with much the same certainty and flair as people with longer experience (and just plain older). I consider mastery of a fund of experience vital in time-constrained circs.. Simon Starkey, PhD, is a good scientist; I am qualified to judge and I have read his papers. I have also seen some remarkable evidences of the two sides coming together in unique and effective treatment plans. I have taken our birds to see several avian specialists over the years. I have not yet encountered one that struck me as anything but top-notch. However, my experience has also been that many cannot function at the top of their form because of ""vet shop"" constraints. Whitestone Vet Care seems to understand this, and appears dedicated to being an effective support system for its professional staff. This is a winning combination. more

I've been bringing my three and a half 9/15/2010

I've been bringing my three and a half year old Yorki-Poo, Yodle, to Whitestone Veterinary Care for about two and a half years now. After several experiences with unprofessional, unkind, and uncaring vets, it was such a relief and comfort to find Dr. Wyler's office. All of the Veterinarians are extremely professional and knowledgeable, taking the time to always answer any questions/concerns regarding medical procedures. Dr. Wyler and his staff also obviously care very much about each and every patient. The front desk staff and veterinary assistants are also very helpful and kind. Yodle was unfortunately a very sick puppy, but after being under the watchful eye of Dr. Wyler and his team, so no longer suffers from many of the medical conditions she was afflicted with when she was younger. I trust them to keep her healthy and happy, at a fair price, and with the same amount of love I would give her myself! I highly recommend!!! more

Benson & Bentley's Veterinarian 12/12/2009

I have been seeing Dr. Wyler at WVC since September 2008. He continues to be knowledgeable and friendly each time I bring in my two dachshunds. He consistently has a terrific bed-side manner and his overall demeanor with the animals is superb. I would suggest WVC for your veterinary medicine needs. -Emily W., Benson & Bentley- Pros: Helpful, courteous, convenient hospital Cons: Vet visits are costly! But you get what you pay for at WVC!! more

I had been to many other vets in the area and the quality of care at WVC is heads and shoulders above them all. They are genuinely compassionate, highly competent, and honest. I totally trust them with the care of my pets. The staff are fantastic, caring, and very accomodating. Dr. Wyler is simply the best vet there is. If you have a pet, this is the place to take them!
