My sister wanted to give me a massage for my Christmas present. I had tried The Face and Body for a massage but had a mediocre experience. My massage therapist was certainly very competent but the atmosphere was not friendly. (The women who give manicures and pedicures are friendly but not all the other staff is.) I spent hours researching St. Louis spas: their prices, approach to relaxation, and attitude towards the customer. I finally decided to try Wellbridge Athletic Club & Spa. I was really pleased with the choice.
Upon arriving, the staff gives you a form to fill out so that they are aware of any allergies or sensitivies you have. Then they hand you a key to a locker. The locker has a fluffy robe and a pair of flip flops. Once you change into your robe, you are welcome to sit in the little massage waiting area and sip tea or water. Japanese music plays softly in the background.
My therapist was great, and the treatment was royal. I asked for a 50 minute Swedish massage. What I particularly loved about the experience was the attention she paid to keeping my body warm and relaxed. After she finished massaging a body area, she applied a hot towel and recovered the area with the sheet. The table was heated and there was even a pillow for your knees so that your back wasn't at all strained. My therapist was friendly and made small talk for the first five minutes but was then quiet. This was great. I'm not a spa regular so I always feel a bit nervous at first; her talking relaxed me. She had the good sense not to keep talking, however.
Once my massage was over I joined my sister in the waiting room, and we sat there for about an hour, sipping tea and talking. If a person wanted, he or she could shower and reapply makeup before leaving.
One thing to note: the spa is in the side of a building that also holds a gym. Health is the focus here.
The prices are really reasonable. I will definitely return.
