Great Hotel right on the river in Downtown Stillwater. My wife and I stayed for our anniversary and were very pleased with the hotel and dining experience.

Yucky Easter Brunch 5/6/2011

We went to Easter Brunch in April of 2011 and it was horrible!! We had a large party and our reservations were around 2:30pm. There were shells in the cold crab cakes, shrimp tails on the shrimp within some kind of red pasta sauce. It was an expensive adventure for cold food and crappy deserts. Price was comparable to the Lake Elmo Inn, which I would pay for any day. YUCK!! Save your money!!! more

hotel was so much fun! 1/5/2011

Stayed here for a few days following our wedding. The rooms were clean and spacious and a great waterfront view. Everything was in walking distance and the restaurant patio at the hotel was so much fun! more

Great location 12/29/2010

Great location, interesting historic building, nice room (bigger than expected). Staff let us stand around more than expected and despite being polite weren't overly helpful with questions. Restaurant staff were excellent. more

The location was perfect 12/16/2010

We just got back from Stillwater and a stay at the Waterstreet Inn. Since we had never been there, we had no idea what to excpect. What a wonderful surprise! The Inn was beautiful, the food was great and everyone was friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and there was alot to do and see within walking distance. Harvest Fest was going on and we were given complimentary tickets for the wine/beer tasting and chilli tasting right across the street. We would definately reccomend this Inn, and are already planning another stay, next fall! more

I very much enjoyed my evening 12/14/2010

I very much enjoyed my evening at Charlie's. The high ceilings in the dining rooms and the uniquely wallpaper walls gave the place a hint of distinction. I ordered steak medium well and found it cooked perfectly and very tasty. The waitress served us well. She was neither inattentive or invasive. The place was not packed but not barren, either. We had a nice setting for a family conversation over dinner. more

Worst Hotel Experience 6/12/2010

We visited this hotel nine months prior and were shown 3 rooms, two suites and a regular room. The regular had one bed and the suites had two rooms with a bed in each room. We held those rooms. The family had a wedding planned for the next June in Stillwater We recommended this hotel in the wedding invite based on what we were shown and the price quoted. In total we had about 6 rooms one night and 8 the next. When we arrived we were informed the hotel had removed a bed from each suite the week prior. They said they sent an email Wednesday (this was Friday) but they did not have our email address. They did have our phone number. Even so, we had people coming in from all over the country and where did they expect them to go. Further, the price of the rooms had increased $20 a night. To make matters worse some parties with reservations had no rooms at all when they arrived. Fortunately some people could go home for the night. We asked to speak to a manager and they brought out a fellow who managed the restaurant. He stated he was unable to do anything for us and that the hotel manager would show up the next day. We were never contacted by the manager. All in all, it was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. Pros: Location Cons: Customer Service more

Best Kept Secret in Stillwater 12/24/2009

My wife and I were amazed by the food and the service, I don't like to write reviews........all I'll say is my wife and I will be going back, I can't believe I didn't know of Charlie's beforehand.......I can't stop telling my friends about this place!!! Truly notable beverage menu with hand crafted cocktails featuring artisan liqueurs and house-infused spirits. Try something from their extensive whiskey list (over 40) or the huge wine list. Wines are priced only $15 over cost and many of these wines are less than you can get at a liquor store. Atmosphere is very relaxing and the live music in the pub was a great after dinner treat. Staff is spot on and I can tell they have had some serious training. Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: Not enough time to enjoy everything more

ARM PIT 10/22/2009

This place smells. It is run down. The furniture is uncomfortable. The dining room service at breakfast was really bad. It is noisy in the rooms on the river side due to traffic crossing to and from Wisconsin on the adjacent street. On the flip side, the river side has a nice view of the St. Croix Valley and it is cool to look at the bridge. The hot tub was great too. This would be a great place to stuff the rooms with drunken frat boys. But if you're celebrating your anniversary, you'll need a good divorce attorney. Pros: Pub Cons: Smelly, run down, poor service more

I'd stay here again 6/18/2006

The Water Street is perfect for a weekend getaway. The location is the best aspect about it. You can walk the river in the morning, shop in the afternoon and live the night life, all right outside the doors of the hotel. It is slightly over priced but its is a fair trade for the location. Dinner was average but the service overall was great. My favorite..... the Irish Pub located in the hotel with excellent live Irish music. Pros: location, unique feel Cons: slightly overpriced more

decent room for $95, but not $230 6/10/2006

The restaurant was super - both pasta dishes we had were superb! The room was way overpriced. It needed a lot of repairs: paint, cleaning, etc.. It was an odd mix of old and new, so the full ambience was hard to get. Very sparsely furnished. Very noisy - party in room next with slamming doors went well past 4am - not exactly romantic. The lobby was very nice, but the room was a dissapointment. So, I would recommend the restaurant, but for $230 you can find a MUCH nicer room elsewhere. Pros: food! excellent Cons: room disappointing, needed paint and repairs, noisy more

More details needed, but overall great! 2/21/2003

My feelings when remebering our stay at this hotel are mixed. I remember it overall as an incredible experience, but it wasn't perfect. We paid $200 for a corner room that was noisy even when the windows were closed, but the beautiful furniture and luxurious hottub made up for that. It sounds kind of petty, but the reason we chose the Lumber Baron's was because the pictures of the beds on the website showed canopy beds with a sheer curtain surrounding the bed and flowing to the floor. The bed in our room was wonderful, but the bed curtain had been hacked off to the point where you had to leave it tied back because it would no cover the bed! It was also very uneven, and unattractive as we attempted to unfurl it. I loved the decor, though we wont return to pay those prices unless things are changed. Pros: Amazing Decor, Hot Tubs Cons: Horrible restaurant, Needs more cleaning more

Beautiful 12/19/2002

The suite we stayed in was wonderful. All the amenities- fireplace, whirlpool and a deck with a beautiful view of the river. Very close to the St. Croix Vineyards and Ammondts Apple Orchard. Great weekend getaway! Pros: good parking Cons: expensive more

The Place to be... 5/28/2002

I had a blast one year for my birthday, in downtown Stillwater. We rented a couple of rooms, and mine and my husbands was a room on the River...we were in heaven. Our friends were not so lucky and ended up on the street-side in a shabby run-down room. Even though they were both beautifully furnished, we found that the ceilings/walls needed a face-lift. The bed was the best piece, it was definately fit for a Queen...at the rate of $200.00 per room, it was just a tad over-priced. Otherwise, my husband, Ken and I would LOVE to go back there again. Thank You Pros: in Stillwater, on the River, friendly-staff Cons: over-priced, couch too small, needed repairs more
