Editorial review from Citysearch 8/18/2013

Wow! A real bookstore! With the demise of the biggies, it looks like Vroman's is still going strong. They have a great selection of book, nice staff. The store is beautiful and has lots of ""extras."" There's whole section for greeting cards, gifts, pens, pencils, stationery, etc. It's such a relief to see a bookstore still thriving. I hate the thought that there are people growing up now who will never have the pleasure of browsing the shelves of a bookstore or the bins of a record store. They also have storytime for kids and a monthly book club. Thank you Vroman's for staying alive.\r more

One Of The Best Bookstores 5/18/2011

What a wonderful bookstore! If you're a rabid bookworm like me, then you will love Vroman's; sadly, this is one of the last of the independent bookstores. This bookstore is huge, with an exceptionally wide and comprehensive selection of literature; as a plus, the staff is most helpful and polite. Please support this outstanding establishment. more

Huge selection 3/24/2011

Great bookstore, huge selection with very reasonable prices. They also have a huge selection of dvd's and cd's for those of you, like me still have a cd player. more

Best Bargain Section 6/10/2010

Aside from all the other great things you've heard and can read here about this great bookstore, it has what has to be the best bargain section I've seen. I've gotten some really great books that you wouldn't find on standard bargain shelves in other bookstores, including bestsellers, Dr. Seuss, and other terrific books, CDs and DVDs. In addition, the kids section of Vroman's, which takes up the bulk of the second floor is second-to-none. It has the largest selection plus games, toys and even some clothes. It's a great place to spend a Sunday morning. more

Going to Vromans is always a treat 2/21/2010

Vromans is a wonderful place to come to. Walk in and escape reality. Great books, good coffee, wonderful kids section upstairs, great selection of greeting cards. Plus they have this thing call Vromans Gives Back, they donate a portion of your purchase to local charities. Why the heck anyone would go to a chain bookstore is beyond me. Pros: Independent -- not a chain!! Cons: Parking sometimes a hassle especially during the holidays more

Cannot compete with online ordering. 12/19/2008

The reason why Borders and Barnes and Noble are taking over is because they can handle things like shipping books. I get why people love this store: it's an independent in a sea of conformity. What it lacks, however, is the ability to compete effectively online. Witness my recent experience, never got any email regarding status of my order, it sat in a 'pending' queue for 5 days until I emailed them. After requesting a credit for shipping, was told they would do essentially nothing. Not the kind of customer service you expect from an independent bookstore -- more like something you expect from B&N, and even then, they would give you something for your inconvenience. more

Very dissapointing 8/5/2008

I used to rave about Vroman's, but don't except any rave reviews from me anymore. Just in the last two weeks I had to twice leave the store very dissapointed. Two weeks ago I took the time out of my schedule to go all the way to Vroman's (I live about 10 miles away), because according to their website they had the book in stock that I was looking for. On arrival I couldn't find it, because they didn't have it in stock! They could order it for me though, but no thanks, Barnes & Nobles seemed like a better and faster choice, since they always seem to have what I am looking for. If only they weren't located in old town, I wouldn't ever consider going to Vroman's (easier access). Pros: Easy access Cons: Inaccurate website, bad customer service, not dog friendly more

Love this place 3/18/2007

Love, love this place: best postcards, invitation cards ever, beautiful gift wraps, best gift bags, great books, and helpful staff too. Pros: service, accessories, books more

Best Bookstore in Los Angeles 3/12/2007

This bookstore has, easily, the best selection in Los Angeles. There are popular books mixed in with obscure finds. I like this place because it is a welcome breath of literary fresh air from the Barnes & Nobles further down the block. I also like the newsstand right outside. Makes me feel so metropolitan. more

Best independant book store 12/6/2006

There is nothing about this store which is not the best in Los Angeles. Support your independant book store. more

The Best Bookstore with free parking! 11/5/2005

Vroman's is the best book store in the Los Angeles Area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They stock a wide variety and selection of books and not just the best sellers. They also have a wonderful children's book area and wonderful gift selections. They also have a wonderful paper and pen store a few doors down the street. Pros: great selection, helpful staff, free parking more

Always there for you 11/4/2005

No matter what book I want or need, Rebekah in the Vroman's Order Department, can get it for you. Just email her, and it will be on its way. She and the others in the department have found me old books I was sure were out of print and new books (even with autographs) for my own library and for gifts. In fact, the entire staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and their inventory is amazingly complete. Pros: Complete stock, Author talks, good parking more

The Best Authors 10/26/2005

This store has the BEST author events. Parking is convenient. And perhaps because of proximity to Caltech, the store has an excellent science section. Pros: terrific selection, cpnvenient parking, grest author events Cons: no discounts more

Good independent bookstore 3/24/2005

A wide selection of books -- including a good sale selection just inside the front entrance (past the newspaper and magazine stand) and in the back by the cookbooks. Upstairs, there a nice selection of cards and writing paper, and a room full of children's books that also always full of kids. I know one parent who finds it's a good place to while away an hour with his two boys because there are so many other kids and so much to do there. more

Best Book store ever!!!!!!! 3/7/2005

This is a fabulous bookstore! It is so easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. Upstairs is a nice little designated area for people who wish to read before they buy. Unlike other bookstores where the only place available is a spot on the floor in the ""cooking"" aisle. Out front on the sidewalk there is a gargantuan shelf of magazines. The selection looks to be endless. The customer service is also very very helpful!!!!! To top it all off it's also conveniently located next to Laemlle theater. Grab a movie and a book! In which ever order you prefer! more

Pasadena Landmark Store 6/11/2004

Vroman's is a great place to stop in and buy that ""forgotten"" gift. Not only is there an amazing and well-rounded selection of books, but there are artsy gifts, hand-crafted cards, quirky garden items and a whole lot more. It may not be a big bargain store, but the knowledgable staff and excellent service make up for the minimal savings at those other places. I especially appreciate the honest reading suggestions from the staff posted on the shelves, particularly when selecting a gift in a genre I'm not familiar with. It's a great place (or the worst place) for impulse shoppers like myself. You'll easily find that one perfect item, or 10 perfect items. Pros: special ordering, knowledgable staff Cons: crowded parking lot more

pasadena bookworm's delight 12/23/2003

Vroman's is not only a great bookstore, but also a Pasadena landmark in its own way. The selection of books is also expansive, and the staff is always very friendly and knowledgable. I love browsing books at Vroman's. It is the sort of bookstore you want to get lost in. The wide variety and high quality of knick knacks and books gives Vroman's that comfortable cozy feeling of a small bookstore that beats out Borders and Barnes and Nobles hands down. Pros: cozy atmosphere, variety of selection, classy and classic more

paperchase 9/14/2003

Vroman's found a special book I've been hunting high and low for + ordered it on-the-spot...it was in my hands within days. All of the employees are genuinely friendly, too. Vroman's is also great for marathon browsing; when my parents come to town, they like to check out the travel section, the cutesy ""lifestyle"" stuff (soaps and stationary and all that) and coffee at the adjoining cafe. One of Pasadena's best, bar-none. Pros: selection, nice worker bees more

Time warp 9/24/2002

Every time I enter Vroman's the strangest thing happens. Time just seems to speed by. This place has so much to offer. A Great selection of art and programming books. If need be, there are restrooms upstairs. Downstairs is sort of a gift shop type of set up, and the best thing is that if you get tired, or you just bought a book, you can't wait to read, Zeli's coffee shop is right in the store, and the staff of both Vroman's and Zeli's are wonderfully helpful. What else could you want? This place is perfect. Pros: Books, Coffee, Gifts more

Calling all bookworms..... 6/20/2002

If you like to read, and especially if you like to browse, this is the place. This Pasadena bookstore is a one of a kind place that has been around for over 100 years. Make sure you have time to look around because there is a lot more to see then just books. The store is two floors, with a special area for kids and lots of gift ideas. Of course, whenever I go to look for a gift I usually find I can't leave without something for me. It is a bit 'pricey' than Borders or Barnes & Noble, but you can find so much more. Another plus is the little cafe when you can curl up with a coffee or maybe some lunch and enjoy the books you just purchased. more
