Best

What a wonderful bookstore! If you're a rabid bookworm like me, then you will love Vroman's; sadly, this is one of the last of the independent bookstores. This bookstore is huge...

Worst

The reason why Borders and Barnes and Noble are taking over is because they can handle things like shipping books. I get why people love this store: it's an independent in a sea...

Turn The Page 6/13/2002

If you're looking for a good book here's the place. Lot's of subjects. Good Customer Service. Magazines and Newspapers also for sale. more

A Reader's Paradise 6/13/2002

When I first started getting familiar with Pasadena, friends told me that this was a great place to find books that were rare, varied, and really cool. They were right about all three. Vroman's isn't big on discounts or sales, but they are big on stocking great titles and plenty of underexposed writers. I've never seen such a large poetry section in a bookstore. Go there sometime with no expectations in your mind and leave with a great book under your arm Pros: Good selection, Large newsstand, Helpful staff Cons: Not many discounts more

Should put B&N out of business 6/13/2002

the best new bookstore in LA. their monthly newsletter profiles new releases and up-and-coming authours as well as old favorites. The staff is 10x more helpful than a chain store. They donate a portion if proceeds to local charities. some of the gifts and knickknacks are a bit pricey though they ARE meant as gifts... but $3 for a chocolate bar? more

Borders can bite it 6/12/2002

Vroman's is a testiment to small-chains can winning in the end. My mom used to take me here as a kid for its large children's section and I have been coming back ever since--though I have ventured from the children section. They offer a large selection of books and interesting little trinkets to add culture to your decor. Vroman's is one of the many pieces that makes Pasadena as classy as it is. Pros: Cute Employees, Quality Selection Cons: Hours more

Much Better Than Megachains 5/20/2002

The sales staff is very friendly and helpful. The selection is staggering. The children's section alone is worth a visit. And while the big discounts offered from megachains may not be available, there is a huge selection of bargain books, audiobooks, gift items, etc. If you're looking for a gift and can't think of a thing, stroll Vroman's aisles, look at the staff recommendations or get a title signed by the author at an in-store event. Then, end the shopping/browsing spree with a frozen hot chocolate from the cafe. Sign up for the charity program at the register and a percentage of your purchase goes toward an area charity. Pros: Great Selection, Bargain Section, Charity Program Cons: No Big Discounts more

Great Pasadena treasure 5/16/2002

Vroman's is one of those bookstores that fights on the same footing as Barnes and Noble and Border's. It might be a bit smaller than the mega stores, but the selection of literature is wonderful, which is why I go to bookstores in the first place. (If you're looking for tech books, Border's on S. Lake is honestly better) I also appreciate the recommendations from the staff. It seems they're a well-read group of book lovers who like to share their discoveries. I've spent many fine mornings browsing the shelves with a cup of Zeli's coffee, and I hope to spend many more.wi Pros: literature selection, zeli's coffee Cons: weak tech section more

Good books, savvy staff 5/13/2002

I love this store and buy all my new books here. They have a great selection and a friendly small-town feel. If I cant find what Im looking for, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. (I know. A bookstore staff that actually reads the books! Its unbelievable.) more
