We love VonGeertsem Butcher Shop! The Service was Excellent . The owner is super friendly and took the time to explain the proper cooking techniques and the different cuts and options we had . I have eaten at the best steakhouses in Dallas and I never thought that the best steak I'd ever eaten would be made on my own grill. I have never had anything so perfectly tender. I followed his cooling instructions and it came out perfect. We Live in Oak Cliff and I don't mind driving all the way over to Oak Lawn for this place. I am sure we will be back a lot. This store reminds me of a place that use to go when I lived in Lakewood:) No, seriously. This is what I think that butcher shops look like in Europe and/or New York. Really quaint place. Nice staff. HUGE SELECTION!! Very convenient. Happy to have them in the neighborhood! Pros: Specialty cuts, and variety. more

Amazing Meat And Service 10/3/2008

This place is a true traditional butcher. Greg serves up better meat than not only the typical grocers, but even better than Central Market! His pricing is also 30% below the specialty grocers like Central Market. In addition to superior meat Greg provides superior service. He takes the time to help in your decision making process and provides his expertise on cooking methods. Given the current atmosphere of super centers and giant Best Buys and PetCos with no service, it is great to have a store like this that cares about its customers. Pros: Amazing meat, low price, phenominal service! Cons: Other stores should offer the same quality of service! more

Best butcher around 7/15/2007

Best butcher shop I've been to in Dallas. Greg is a top notch butcher, always willing to share his knowledge and tips. Everything there is top notch but the ribeye and pork ribs are especially noteworthy. You cannot go wrong here. Pros: Quality fo meat and knowledge of staff Cons: parking. That is the only con and we are not rating parking garages so who cares more

Great meat, superb steaks! 12/4/2006

When I saw the sign for this little butcher shop, I was so excited! It had been years since I had shopped at a ""real"" butcher shop. When I went inside, it only got better. Greg and his fiance (owners) are there to help you from picking the meat, to how to cut it and how to cook it. Their customer service is beyond excellent, and what is missing from so many of the everyday grocery stores. And to top it all off, the meat is wonderful! Their marinated Ribeye is the best ribeye I have ever eaten, bar none. (And I worked at a steak house for 2 years) Thank you so much VG's!!! Pros: Everything! Cons: Parking is a bit of a hassel more

This is a wonderful store. It is rare to find an old fashioned butcher store where the butcher is so helpful and knowledgable. The meat is always good, the prices are fair and there is a line of Boar's Head items that make this store perfect. I hope more and more people will use this store. Pros: Owner managed more

Excellent butcher shop. It is difficult to find a good meat shop nowadays with the grocery stores. Plus we also like Boar's Head and this shop carries that too. We can get all of our cuts of meat and they are fresh and affordable. Plus the owner is super nice and helpful -- everything a successfull business can provide. The shop was very clean. There were free recipes and postcards on display. The owner was very knowledgable about his prodcut and willing to answer any questions. They have a great variety and most importantly nowadays...excellent customer service! Pros: Staff more

I can't say enough about this butcher shop and the butcher that operates it! It's about time that quality is brought back into our choices of meat! You will never be dissapointed by a cut of meat from this favoriet hometown butcher because he really cares about you and what you feed your loved ones! My future husband happens to love meatloaf, you wouldn't think it's hard to find ground pork for a good meatloaf mix but it was until VG's opened! he will cut, grind, smoke and order whatever you desire! The oaklawn neighbors are truley blessed to have a real life butcher at their doorstep. Thank's Greg and Cathy for dreaming 'back when' and bringing quality back to our neighborhood! Pros: Fresh! Excellent meats and service 11/11/2006

When I walked into the shoppe for the first time, it reminded me of the butchers of my childhood in Queens, NY. I would go to the butcher every night for fresh meat. This shoppe reminds me of that experience. Everything clean and bright, fresh meats that you can select and have trimmed as you wish. Plus, the Boars Head Brand is the absolute best, I won't buy any other. Pros: All good Cons: I just wish I lived closer more

This is what the Oak Lawn and Park Cities has needed for years. A ""Real"" Butcher Shoppe, friendly service, and very accomodating for any custom cut meat one could ever want. True Certified Angus Beef is the best. I will tell all my friends about this shop. Open seven days a week to cater to the most discriminating customers. If you haven't dropped in and met Greg, you've waited long enough. You can't go wrong with an Owner/Operated business. Not cheap because ""You get what you pay for"". Angus beef surpasses ""Prime"" grades. Pros: Best meat and best service in town. more
