They have done a multiplicity of services on two of my cars, and I always go back to them because they are personable, honest, fair, and they provide quality work. Overall, Hans Auto Repair provides very high quality. I'm a hard to please person when it comes to interfacing with anybody dealing with cars. This is the first business that I've really trusted. I have a high degree of trust and confidence in them. It's rare for me to say that. I've had them work off and on for years on two different Volvos. I have a 1996 Volvo 850 and a 2001 Volvo V70. They have done all kinds of routine stuff and some unusual trouble shooting and repairs such as a sunroof that was jammed. They've done quite a bit of stuff on both cars. One of the biggest satisfactions I had from working with their business was a referral to someone who did auto body repair work. It was outstanding. The referral was for the highest quality body work. It's hard for me to put in words, but once you get by the seemingly cold front staff, it's perfectly good service. So it's not the warmest of interactions, but it's very satisfactory in quality. more

Hans Auto Repair has always been incredibly helpful and insightful. They have always been able to help me, even when they say they are very busy. They have worked with me when I can't pay right away, and they have the absolute best deals, down to the point where they help me find rare filters so that I can do my own oil changes. They are exceptional in the ways they have worked with me. The best shop I have ever experienced. They have friendly service, and it's the kind of friendliness you only usually experience if your friends are working on your car. It's the only time I have experienced that in a shop setting. They're the top of the line for the Volvo faithful, because that's what they specialize in, and I have been loyal to Volvos for years. more

Hans Auto Repair is a really good Volvo repair place. They offer the best service for a good deal. Most recently, I noticed a puddle of oil at home and I knew it could be something serious. I took it over to Mike without an appointment and he was happy to squeeze me in because he also knew it could be something bad. He ended up figuring out what it was and called me up to make sure I wanted the work done, which I did. I asked if he could also take care of servicing my car for me too while he had it there. He told me it would be no problem and went to work. He had it ready for me about two hours later. They are fast, knowledgeable and able to resolve issues quickly. Hans Auto Repair is the greatest! I totally trust them. They always go out of their way for their customers. Plus, they are a green certified business, which is really important to me. I've been using them for ten years and they've kept my same car running. I think it's great that they will find me used parts or replace wiring for me. I live in a wooded area, so there are rats. The rats get into my car and chew on the wires. Mike knows my car as the "rat car" now. He helped me catch a rat that was living in my car and tearing it apart! He replaced the things that needed replacing for me. I was most pleased with him. They are always trying to make their customers happy. They treat you like they are close, personal friends. They are decent people, good, warm and honest. If you live in the area and drive a Volvo, go see them! Tracy keeps all the records, and lets you know ahead of time when you're going to need something repaired or serviced. It's fantastic. I have found my even-handed, ethical mechanic. I have been going to Hans Auto Repair since before Mike bought it, back when Hans himself ran it, so I have been a loyal customer going on 12 to 15 years. Since they took it over things have become much more energetic and of a higher quality. I think it is an improvement. I love the fact that the service manager and the head mechanic are married. It guarantees that the mechanic can't lie to the service manager. One of the biggest problems in most repair shops is the misinformation provided by the mechanic to the service manager that causes undue havoc. Because mechanics are usually busy you can't necessarily deal directly with them. If the mechanic tells the whole truth and nothing but the truth then a service manager is a great idea. Since they are married, it is a given you are getting the true story. The quality at Hans Auto Repair is great. They are as good as it can be; there are no better Volvo mechanics around. Don't use them though, so that I can have quicker access to their services. more

I have been a customer of Hans Auto pretty much since they opened, and I was recommended to Hans by a friend who used them for a long time before that. I am a private enterprise solution guy and I am also concerned with social justice, so I like to see good people find solutions to problems and I like to see everyone win. I especially appreciate people who have an incentive to do good work at a fair price; not necessarily the cheapest or least expensive because that is not usually the answer to anything. From the beginning, I knew Hans Auto Repair would do well because Tracy and Mike have those qualities that make the difference in terms of success and value. Volvo owners tend to have certain characteristics. I think they are usually people who are willing to pay for a good product and they will keep and maintain their cars for a long time. And I think for that reason Hans Auto Repair have some excellent clientele. By the same token, their is probably a certain segment of their clientele who may expect too much. Volvo owners tend to keep their cars as long as possible but there comes a point when it is more cost effective to just get a new car. I have been with Hans Auto Repair since 2004 and they are absolutely trustworthy. They basically treat your vehicle as though it were something they had to rely on. I have never suspected them of the kind things you hear about with other mechanics. They do not find things to be fixed that do not need done. Tracy and Mike give me the straight scoop. They are reliable, they provide very good customer service, and they have modern equipment, so they are able to do diagnostic and repair work on newer model Volvos. They also run a green shop, which is important to me. I absolutely know they are going to take care of me and my car in a timely manner. If I have to wait at all, it is just because of parts. We first went to Mike many years ago when was a mechanic for someone else. The federal catalytic converter malfucntioned in one of our vehicles and none of the repair shops we went to could figure it out. Mike was the only one to identify and fix the problem, and we have been using him ever since. We have been with Mike for as long as he has been at Hans Auto Repair, and he is unbelievable. He is incredibly neat and clean. His place has no oil spots or drips. Both he and Tracy are very good at what they do. We are very impressed with them. Mike can figure anything out. We have Volvos and Mike has always been able to find the problem and fix it. And, no matter how busy he may be, he never seems rushed. He always takes his time to talk to you about what the problem is or what you need to keep an eye on. And Tracy is very knowledgeable as well. They will both take time to explain things. I drove a BMW for 16 years and had a shop I loved. My car never broke down. When I switched to driving a Volvo, I was bummed, because my Volvo was repeatedly breaking down. Eventually, I had a problem that resulted in my being towed numerous times, and several different shops--even the Volvo dealership-- could not figure this problem out, even though I spent a lot of money on their unsuccessful attempts to resolve it. I was so frustrated! Fortunately, that was when I found Mike and Tracy, at Hans Auto Repair. They figured out the problem on the first visit, fixed it, and I never had to go back for that issue again. In fact, I never had to be towed again! Even after 10 years, my Volvo has never broken down since coming to Mike and Tracy, even though this is a 1987 with over 250,000 miles on the original engine. They've completely earned my trust, and of course, I have continued to use only their shop for these 10 years. Why wouldn't I? They keep my car running beautifully, they're so clearly experts. And they're honest, fair, and reasonably priced too! I don't know anything about cars, and in the past, I'd sometimes feel foolish or intimidated at car shops. Not here! Tracy and Mike are very respectful and kind, and Tracy is phenomenal about helping you feel confident regarding your car's maintenance schedule. She has never made me try to buy things that are not essential, and yet makes me aware anytime something is important for keeping my car safe and reliable. She reviewed my maintenance records and taught me what was essential to maintain my car. I don't have to worry about it at all anymore. I also never have trouble getting scheduled at Hans. They're a popular shop, and still manage to set maintenance appointments within a very reasonable time frame. If I'm going out of town and want to be sure to have my regular maintenance done on my old car before taking that drive, they do it. Anytime that I call for a maintenance appointment or have a question or doubt about my old car, they are very quick to respond. They are great about followup. I care about the environment, so I was even happier about my shop when Hans Auto Repair became the first Monterey Bay Certified Green Business in Seaside! I love that, and it makes me feel good that if I can't drive a greener car yet, at least my car's shop is green. Tracy and Mike are truly a pleasure to do business with. They are polite, professional, trustworthy, dependable, caring, and fun. I could not recommend them more highly. more
