Volkmann's

I brought in a ring to be appraised. They told me normal price. Is $45 but since i had original appraisal. It would not be as much.( I bought it here). Was told it would be done in a week. It took 4 WEEKS. Kept calling and said the jeweler was out (aka Joyce). Finally went and picked up and of course charged the full $45. \r She is ruining her families business!!! Well, now its hers. They used to be the place to go to get high quality jewelry. NOT anymore. She buys jewelry from anybody ( i was in there when they did-and it looked like the guy just stole it). Don't go there if you want high quality and good service. more

I got the worst service ever at volkmanns they sold me a 10K white gold ring wedding set and come back to buy another ring and I find out my wedding ring is silver. It turned black in the gold cleaner. volkmann's is defrauding the community. I can't take ring back it's my WEDDING ring I expected more then to make things right they offered me some of my money back but called a day later to tell me if I want my ring that I paid for it says so on receipt they want over 100 dollars! they are holding my ring hostage such a horrible experience I've never been treated like that anywhere else more

Absolutely horrible. She was a client of mine and did everything to avoid paying what she owed, and then when she needed help she explained how she strongly disliked one of her clients who had just recently bought a significant amount of product. She wasn't afraid to talk bad about her own client that is for sure! Very shady, loosely run organization. Don't expect much. more

Great small business jewlery store! They have a little bit of everything, from high end to low end. I've purchased my fiance's engagement ring, her wedding band, my wedding band, diamond earrings, diamond pendant, etc. there and I always feel like they've treated me fairly. Joyce is very knowledgable, and will help you find the stone you're looking for if they don't have what you want. If I need jewlery, this is the only place I'll go! more

Lost merchandise, fired employees, bad checks and stolen tamales. Wally, I hope you have been kept in the dark about this! I have given up on shopping here. Best advice I can give the general public? Shop elsewhere. P.S. They are not vendors with Hearts on Fire anymore. more

Approx. $20 to replace a watch battery, and was told "I think I tore the gasket, but give it a shot." Sure enough, water got in the watch. Took it back, and even after I made sure they knew I thought it was their responsibility, they charged me another $20 to do something else "that might work okay." I protested, to no avail. Will never ever go back, that's for sure. more

Volkmann's recently replaced their jeweler of more than 40 years. While they have offered both jewelery and watch repair on site, they are losing their watch maker. Repairs will still be handled by the store however and will be sent off site, with the exception of battery and band replacement on most watches.\r It is still the best selection of jewelery in the area outside Chicago and provides some of the finest products available. It sells Hearts on Fire diamonds which is available at limited locations and is not available anywhere else in Kankakee County. \r As a family owned store, the selection of jewelery is made by the store manager Joyce Volkmann Yonke. They have a staff of four employees, one of which has been selling jewelry for many years and one with only recent experience. The other two have been with Volkmann's longer.\r If they can find a new watch repair employee, they will again be on top with five stars, combining service and sales. more

i absolutely love this store and the amazing customer service that was provided. all of the employees were so helpful and made the experience for both myself and my husband extremely enjoyable. we will be going there for years to come! and my ring is as beautiful as they come. hearts on fire diamonds....there is nothing better! more

We bought a ring on a cruise ship and took it to Volkmann to be re-sized. After 2 weeks, I called to find out if the ring was ready, nobody could answer the question. The excuse given was that the jewler was on vacation and had just gotten back. After a month, I called again and nobody could answer the question but they promised to call me back as soon as the jewler got back from lunch. After 90 minutes, they called to say that the jewler had lost a stone from the ring while polishing it after the resizing and was having trouble locating another stone like it. A week later, I went in with the receipt for the ring and demanded that they reimburse me for the ring they damaged and could not repair. They refused, based on their unwritten company policy and promised to repair the ring to our satisfaction and perform the re-sizing free of charge. I gave them another week. My wife went in to pick up the ring this morning and they had the nerve to charge her $50 for the re-sizing. This place is a poor example of how to run a local business and I am relating this story to anyone that will listen. This is a good old-fashioned jewelry store that's been around forever. The store has remained in the Volkmann family so you are assured that they definitely know what they are doing. They carry lots of fine, higher-priced jewelry, silver items (platters, candlesticks, etc.), watches, etc. and the selection is great for a small store. They have awesome sales and they offer layaway- even on their sale items! Volkmann's is located in Meadowview Shopping Center and the parking is only feet from the store. Their sales staff is second-to-none and go above-and-beyond to get you what you're looking for. I have had my wedding ring and other precious heirlooms fixed there and they always are prompt and do an excellent job. They have melted down my Mom's wedding ring and added the gold to mine as well as made a cross from some other gold that I had. Plus, they threw some suggestions at me so that I could have some other excellent ideas for the remaining gold. A wonderful store! more
