Made my trip to Portland! 4/13/2009

A friend had recommended that I check out the art-centric space and atmosphere - so I looked it up online and found a 5 star recommendation on the burgers. I must admit, the review was correct - great homemade ketchup and burgers. Their bartender, Donald, was attentive and friendly - the owner even engaged me in conversation. This place is great! Oh - AND they have their own variety of special house-infused spirits! YUM! Pros: Open late, good food, great service. more

This place is a winner!!!!!! 2/27/2009

This is the best little place to go and have a awesome meal. I have been several time when I get to Portland . I will always go there. I had this spicy chicken vidulese dish, Out Of This World , (I am sorry about any spelling errors) I have always enjoyed the food there and will return anytime that I can. So to you very small and unhappy people that just want to complain about anything and everything ,go find some other hole to crawl into. For me though, ""Thank You to The Staff of Voleur...Keep the Great Food Coming!!!"". Pros: Great People, Food, Service... Cons: Parking . That Downtown for You more

I won't be going back 7/5/2008

I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday and was really disappointed with this place. The food was overpriced and the service was horrible. They have done away with their happy hour on Saturday and everything else on their menu has increased by atleast a buck (if you look at the menu link on this site). I just ordered a side of fries ($4.00) They were bland with not nearly enough dipping sauce - a total jip for $4. I sampled the mac & cheese and it was nice and creamy, but definitely not worth the cost of $8.00. One couple in our party ordered the spicy hummus ($7.00) and I was kind of shocked to see this came with 3 pieces of toasted bread and a couple veggies - another rip-off in my opinion. The server was rude and didn't even bother to take my drink order. He also forgot to place the order for one of my friend's meals. We went and got ourselves our own pitchers of water since he did not even bother to check on us and we were thirsty. And mind you, this was at 5p.m. and pretty empty - maybe 4 parties total inside and out. Needless to say I won't be going back to this place again. more

I'm in love 6/15/2008

Wow! Voleur is fabulous! I'm surprised about the 'homophobic' review because I swear I felt some opposite vibes from the staff and they were swarmed with people getting ready for the Pride March. Anyhow, very attentive and skilled staff, which is extremely important to me. The bartender makes a mean mixed drink, even if you have no idea what you want. The infused liquors are A-MA-ZING! And they're not as spendy as I would expect them to be. The food (smoky mozarella pasta-wow!) was a favorite in our group. The portions were quite large (everyone had a take-home box) and even I, who am a fairly accomplished cook, could barely improve on anything. I would have added red pepper flakes, but then I like it spicy. The music was squee-worthy and the ambiance lovely. What with wait-staff calling me by name within a short time, the out-of-this-world liquor and the fantastic food, I can't wait to find an excuse to return. I also cannot imagine why they're not always packed but I'm thankful they're still open while not becoming another Roxy or Montage. Pros: Service, menu, staff Cons: Parking, price more

Three words: Chicken. Fried. Steak. 4/12/2008

Best late nite dining hands down. Awesome staff. I'm hesitant to write a review because I don't want it to get too popular and go downhill (Montage, anyone?). Pros: Excellent food and service. more

A lovely place to spend a few hours! 2/26/2008

Just got back from a late night dinner at Voleur that was so wonderful I feel I have to gush. Ive had drinks here a few times before, and the atmosphere was so wonderful I knew i'd have to come back for dinner some night. I finally made it back tonight and had a wonderful meal. The spot is just beautiful: an old, old building with high ceilings, subtle lighting and classy decor without that slightly creepy homogenized Mcminnimins feel. The bartender/waitress was sweet and attentive without being annoying, and she offered great food suggestions. The 'Oregonzla' salad i ordered was wonderful: walnuts, gorgonzola cheese and thin-cut green apples over mixed greens w/ a pomegranate dressing that was not too sweet and not too vinegary. My boyfriend had a salmon entree that was cooked perfectly and come with a pretty generous helping of sides. We split a bowl of potato soup (not bad but nothing special!) and a plate of *super* tasty fries that came with blueberry habanero ketchup- so good, but we wished the small serving of ketchup was alittle bigger. The drinks at Voleur are great, they have an extensive list of infused vodkas, tequila, bourbons and gins. The hot toddy made with fig-walnut bourbon, lemon, honey and spices I had was delicious and my boyfriend loved his hot pepper tequila margarita (why he chose a margarita in the middle of winter is beyond me, but he said it was great). I cant wait to go back and try more! Pros: wonderful ambience, an exciting menu, infused liquo cocktails Cons: none! more

Great Comfort Food!!!! 1/3/2008

Just had lunch here. Everyone in our party had an awesome meal. Service was great and informative. I will be returning soon! Pros: Awesome Food, Great Service more

Pretty good place 9/7/2007

I've been looking forward to going here for quite awhile. I went with a friend at 7pm on a Saturday night and we were the only people there! I'm not really sure why, but that always makes me think something sketchy is going on. The service was VERY friendly and attentive- no problems there. Pros: Good parking and service Cons: disappointing portions for the price on SOME menu items more

Best All-Time Place to Meet and Eat (and Drink!) 8/7/2007

I've been stopping in at Voleur for dining, visiting, drinking, joining friends, and bringing guests for the past two years. I was horrified to see someone characterize one of Portland's best-kept secret hideaways as ""homophobic."" On the contrary, all sorts of people congregate at Voleur, their major commonality being a desire to enjoy good times and good company and good food. There is definitely no phobia of any type here, be you young or old, tattooed or not, straight or gay. Welcoming of diversity is what Voleur is. Even the cultural and social variety of the staff itself bespeaks this philosophy. Pros: Location, Ambience, Parking, Late-night Availability, Great Waiters more

Best of everything! 7/19/2007

We have visited Voleur on every trip to Portland, and couldn't have been more pleased with every facet of our experience each time. The food is fantastic and the service friendly & fast. It is a great place for lunch or dinner, and the entertainment is excellent. Don't feel like drinking? The coffee is great too! Voleur gets top marks from us in all categories! Pros: Service, food, prices, seating, atmosphere more

Impeccable in all ways 7/17/2007

I had walked by Voleur countless times and always meant to go in, and finally did on a Monday evening after work. Everything about my visit was perfect! The waiter was friendly, handsome, and attentive. He recommended the cocktail special (so good that I forget all of the components, though it had cherry-infused bourbon and tea) which was delicious and refreshing. The black bean burger was expertly prepared, with incredible flavor and texture. The soup of the day (turkey potato) had huge, hearty chunks of tender turkey with corn and potato: a good-sized bowl, too. After a surprise complimentary dessert, I left very satisfied. I'll definitely be back to this beautiful spot with friends. Thanks!! Pros: Delicious food, expert service, fab cocktails, convenient to MAX Cons: Can't think of anything... more

Great lunch Spot 6/23/2007

we came here for lunch and have returned several times since. Their outdoor seating is lovely on a warm day, prices are very reasonable and the entire atmosphere is wonderful. The food is to die for! You can visit voleur with a co-worker or a romantic friend - you will not be disappointed either way! Pros: great food, friendly service and very reasonable more

Voleur Virgins 5/20/2007

Friday night was our first time at Voleur. We had a great time. The space was inviting and comfortable. Craig, our waiter, was very attentive without being overbearing. The food was great and reasonably priced. I loved the chef's presentation. The Oregonzola blue cheese salad was full of both sweet and bold flavors. Between the four of us, we had an array of entrees. Including the Chicken PotPie, Mac & Cheese, Salmon and the evening special Quail. It was tough to decide which was best. However. I do plan on having the Chicken PotPie next. The only disappointment was the entertainment cancelled at the last minute. We will definitley be back. PS the bartender pours some tasty beverages. more

Id like to share an experience my wife and I had last night. Pros: easy parking across the street and wonderful service Cons: N/A more

Great Root Beer Ribs & Fries 8/3/2006

The food here was great and parking was much easier to find then we anticipated. We arrived as a group of 9 which I thought would be a problem due to seating, but we were promptly seated since we called ahead to let them know. The food was pretty good especially the fries and the ribs. Oh and this may sound strange but the water with the slice of orange was so refreshing that I couldn't stop drinking it. Pros: Food & drinks were great! Cons: None that we noticed, but I'm sure parking could be a bit of a problem at times. more

The Place to Go to Hang Out 7/12/2006

This is a comfortable place to be any time of day. The food is unique, exciting, and flavorable... and includes some nice ""comfort food"" items. Be prepared to delight your tastebuds, and be in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Reed McClintock, a fantastic magician, is featured and shows his skills upclose and personal a couple of evenings a week. There are plenty of tasty wines and other libations, including some infused vodkas that are delightful. This is the type of place to visit late nights, the dinner hour, or even during the day to sit outside on warm summer days and watch the rest of the world pass by. It's great to stop by after at trip to the Saturday Market for a leisurely lunch...it's that close! more

Stylish atmosphere-Walk to everything 6/7/2006

This is a great place to start and/or wind up your night. High ceilings and cool artwork make great ambiance, while the belt driven antique fans and hand made booths add old town style. Pros: Mood, music, wine more

Slow and poor Service 5/3/2006

If you have more time than you know what to do with for mediocre food, then this is your place. Grease is used pretty liberally. After we left the restaurant our clothes smelled like a deep fryer. As for the wait time for food..............we're still waiting. Cons: Slow Service, Greasy Atmosphere, Mediocre Food more

Highly recommended! 4/16/2006

THe food was exceptional! The drinks were great and the music was wonderful! The service was on top of it. I love this place for lunch and great appetizers. THe wine selection was a surprize. We are regular customers if for after work or late night after a concert. We love the fact that they are open 24 hours on weekends. Pros: Food, Wine menu, music Cons: parking, location more
