Place has Good Food like Puff Daddy has Class 10/23/2005

I can see that all of the good reviews for this restaurant were only written by people who know the owners because they sure don't know what good food is. The Garlic Chicken at this restaurant is just plain disgusting. It has so much garlic and fat on it that when I stuck my fork in it nothing but grease surfaced up to the top. The food was delivered within about 3 minutes of sitting down which means that it was probably sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The plaintains were good until I got down to the garlic soaked bottom. Bananas ans greasy garlic sauce are not a good combination. The decor in this place is ""Straight Outta Compton."" Do not take any dates or clients here. Pros: babies crying, long wait, afro-decor Cons: foul water, no parking, long line more

Versailles is OK if... 10/5/2005

-You like to wait in a long line (which usually moves fast on a weekday nite) and be 'seen' by others who do the same (but it's worth it and the owner won't expand to incl a bar) -You don't mind NOT being able to order a Media Noche at nite (what's the point?) -You don't mind a totally impersonal dinner, altho very inexpensive and expediant. Pros: Fast Service, Authentic Food, Inexpensive Cons: Long Wait, No Bar, Impersonal more

0 for 1, but I'll give it another chance 10/2/2005

My boyfriend and I had to wait in line for a table, but we were seated within 20 min. He ordered the chicken and I ordered the pork, both with their signature sauce. The food came out really, really quick. His chicken was good, but I was a little disappointed by my pork. The portion was small (they gave me more onions than pork!) and there was too much fat on them for my taste. But the generous helping of fried plantains and the beans and rice filled me up. The service was okay, but be prepared to look for parking. Although I was disappointed by my choice of dish, Ill give Versailles another try sometime and order something different. Pros: Quick, Fried plantains! Cons: Parking, Ambiance, Small portion of pork more

The best! 8/15/2005

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is amazing and you cant beat the prices and service. I get the pork in the garlic sauce with rice and black beans. It is my favorite. Not the healthiest thing to eat but who cares!! Awesome Sangrias too. Cannot eat Cuban food without a Sangria. Most of the dishes have to be made over a long period of time so they make it in advance so there is no wait for your food to be brought out to you. They bring you alot of food too, so don't fill up on the bread that they bring you. Pros: food, sangrias, cheap more

Awesome! 5/12/2005

Amazing garlic chicken, served on a plate with plenty of juices to dip bits of meat into. The rice and fried plantains that come with the dishes are a simple, yet devestatingly tasty addition. Service could be better, but the place is mad crowded so it's easy to sympathize with the waitstaff. Overall, this is a great restaurant. Pros: Amazing food, Cheap more

Garlic chicken 9/22/2004

I've never had something so good in front of me. The garlic sauce was so rich, I got a migraine after eating it. The lamb was very tasty, too. Even the iced tea was great! I was shocked that the menu was so big...I naively thought there would only be a few things, but boy was I wrong! Pros: garlic chicken, great prices, hefty portions more

Yummmy Meals 8/7/2004

I ate here for the first time not too long ago and it was wonderful. The garlic chicken was nice and crisp on the outside and juicy inside. The white rice with black beans tasted fantastic along with the yukas (fried potato-like) things that tasted yummy. It's a great place for a nice Cuban feast and it's inexpensive menu will sure to have me come back here often. Don't forget to try the Cuban soda which was faaantastic. Also, the service here was great. The server for my family's table had great energy and was eager to describe and suggest the food on the menu Pros: great cuban food, inexpensive, great service Cons: , crowded more

ALMOST AS GOOD AS GRANDMA'S 7/15/2004

Being full blooded cuban and raised on cuban food daily I know good Cuban food..... Anyone saying anything negative about Versailles doesnt know anything about good Cuban food, or how to eat it. You can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. To sum it up nothing comes closer to grandma's home cooked cuban food! YUM! *** TO ALL THE EMPLOYEES KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK *** Pros: fast service, good food, fair price Cons: , not one in orange co., not one in orange co. more

Angelinos Don't Know Cuban Food 7/9/2004

If you think any of the Versailes locations in L.A. is what Cuban food is all about, you're missing out on some delicious meals, better service and more comfortable environs. The Versailes location on La Cienega is a diner that serves average food in a dumpy little place with mediocre servers. The Versailes location in Encino is pretty much the same, although parking can be tricky. The food is pretty bland there, too. The Versailes on Venice Blvd. is the first one I went to, and boy was I disappointed. If you're in a hurry, this place is for you -- come in, eat our food, and then get the hell out. If you're looking for that truly delicious hole-in-the-wall that is the most ""authentic"" of what you'd find in La Habana Pequeña in Miami, go to EL RINCON CRIOLLO on Sepulveda Bl. in Culver City. more

Nothing else like it 6/3/2004

**The best**Garlic Chicken Ive ever tasted. And believe me Ive traveled through many cities such as Chicago, Milwaukee, San Diego, San Francisco Santa Cruse and Monterey. Never have I found anything like. This is my favorite dish ever. Its shame that in order to enjoy this I must travel across the states, wich is worth it. FYIA with this dish try an extra side of the sauce with the platanos. If you dont mind a busy atmosphere this is the place for you. I give Versailles five stars *****. Pros: Authenticly, one of a kind, Lively more

Outstanding!!! 4/10/2004

The pork is out of this world (and the chicken is pretty good too), always make sure you have a dish with plantain!. Although this place is mobbed on most nights, the service is quick and incredibly efficient. Try mid-week if you don't want to wait. It's great food, incredibly cheap and well worth a visit. Pros: cheap, food Cons: , crowded (w/e) more

Greasefest 1/18/2004

I only go here b/c i don't know of any other cuban restaurants in LA. I had the chicken with yellow rice... and although greasy it was tasty. This is definitely a break from the typical fast food / franchised restaurant. Their fried plaintains are pretty good. more

Not worth it. 11/19/2003

I've been to this place twice to see what the hoot was about. And I swear, the food was so bad, I barely felt like eating it. The pork wasn't prepared right, too much vinegar. I felt ashamed that I brought an out-of-town guest there. You're better off going to a hole in the wall Cuban joint like El Cochinito. Cons: food not tasty more

Great Cuban Food 8/29/2003

If you want good Cuban food at a great price, you have to check out Versailles. The best item on the menu is the roasted chicken. It's a huge 1/2 portion of chicken, cooked in garlic, lemon and onion with white rice, black beans and fried plantains. You should also try one of the ""batidos"" (shakes) made from tropical fruit. Don't expect a great ambience, but you're there for the food. Service is quick and efficient, with perhaps not enough ""personality."" Check it out the location on Venice. You'll love it and keep coming back, but come in early to avoid the long lines. Pros: Good value, Delicious chicken Cons: decent parking, Service is simple more

GOOD FOOD 3/1/2003

THE FOOD WAS GREAT! SERVICE WITH A SMILE I WILL RETURN AGAIN WITH FRIENDS more

Flavorful! 1/16/2003

I love their ""Lechon"" but they could stand to use less ""mojo & onions"". They drown it out and that's not how we Cuban's eat it at home! Their black beans are great. Most of their food is very tasty, very filling and very reasonably priced. I wish they would do something about the decor. The one located on Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach is the best looking one I've been to. Pros: fast service, very reasonable Cons: decor, parking more

To Go I Go 11/28/2002

Where can you get a great chicken dinner, increadible shakes and my favorist fried banana's to go after a hard day at work? Versailles is the place to call! Versailles has the best chicken dinners to go in town. You can eat there also but the place is a bit cramped. I love the food too much to let that bother me and just take it to go. Pros: Great Food, The Shakes Cons: Crowded, Too Crowded more

Where has this place been all my life. 7/10/2002

This place is amazing. Please take into consideration that I've only been here once, but the dish I had, Garlic Roasted Chicken, was so good. I have never had chicken prepared that way, and it was so tender, and so flavorful. The sauce on it is tangy, garlic-y and just so mouthwatering. The dinner portions are pretty big. The service I received when I was there was very fast, very friendly, and very good. No waiting for a table, and the food was out within 15 min. The decor is decent, but that's not what you go for. I would highly recommend this place, you can't go wrong. If anything you'll have a restaurant that you'll go back to all the time...I know I do! Pros: Garlic Chicken, Friendly Service, Black Beans more

Fine French Cuisine... 7/10/2002

this is not! I don't exactly know why it's called Versailles, but I heard that there's one in Miami and the building looks like the the Palace of Versailles. But whatever, I don't really care after going there. All I care about now is going back. I read the reviews and took the advice and got the Roasted Garlic Chicken. Damn! I've never had chicken that tasted like that. Honestly, it was a whole new taste. Someone said that it's not really an authentic Cuban dish and in reply I say, who the hell cares?! I'm sure that somewhere in Cuba there's a restaurant that serves a garlic chicken dish, and it probably doesn't taste as good as this anyway. So let it go. The entrée prices are very reasonable, everything less than $20 and some as low as $7. Pros: great food, inexpensive, garlic chicken Cons: limited parking space more

Cooked bananas....... 7/9/2002

I came here recently for a late lunch, early dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the food. I tried the pork and my daughter had the garlic chicken, they both were yummy. Our meals came with black beans, rice and fried plantians. Everything was good and there was plenty. Even had enough to take home for another meal. The price was right too!! more
