Not Happy with VCA 6/3/2007

After two other incidents of having to go back to VCA for extra blood testing because Antech accidentally threw away my cat's sample (twice), I brought my cat in for his yearly check up/ blood work. I was called and told that the results were fine. Over two months later, my cat became ill. When I brought him in, they informed me that there was a mistake, and that the blood work results never came in. Upon retesting, it was found that my cat was not well and needed treatment. What did they do about their mistake? They offered an apology. Nothing more. After sharing this story with a few friends, I heard many other "horror" stories about VCA Burbank and was advised to contact an animal rights lawyer. more

VCA Animal Hospital Burbank/Terrible! 4/18/2007

I took my cat in because she was acting up. They needed to sedate her and told me they would do some urine tests. Told me to come back in an hour. When I showed up they told me it would be $350 for all kinds of test. So I paid and questioned why I was not told about charges before they did the tests. They called me to come get the cat but not to let me know prices. The front desk told me the Doctor should have given me a quote. When I asked to speak to the manager and doctor, after I paid, she told me a quote was not standard procedure. The manager said the opposite from the front desk. She would not offer me an apology or anything. Finally I told her I would have to dispute it with the credit card company. After that she went to the front desk (after bumping the cat cage against the wall) asked them to refund my money gave me back my sedated cat. She never told me that she would stop the test too. I had to ask her about it. She refused to continue with the test and would not give me my cat's medical records. I treid to snatch the records from her she threattened me with 911. So there I was with a sick sedated cat no records no where to go. I called the VCA corporate office never heard back. They will charge anything if you are not careful and see you only for 5 minutes. Answer no questions and treat you bad. I had to go to another animaql hospital without my records and have my poor cat do all tests again. She was already sffering enough. more

Too busy to operate properly/no communication 1/23/2007

I took my cat here for a few months and initially had good service, but it just got worse from there. After having my cat diagnosed with diabetes, I began the treatment for her which involved insulin shots 2 times a day. After a certain amount of time, you are required to have another blood test done to determine if the dosage is correct or needs to be adjusted. This is where the trouble started. First, I had my vet change several times, so no one knew my cat or me. I scheduled an appointment for the test that was recommended, but after arriving for the appointment was told that I had been given the wrong information and had to reschedule. So I did, and brought my cat in two days later in the morning, following their instructions NOT to feed her or give her any insulin shots in the morning. When I got there, there was confusion among the staff as to what test was being conducted and if I was supposed to have given my cat insulin. This is a little scary, considering the fact that if my cat was given a double dose of insulin, she would go into diabetic shock and most likely die because she is 13 years old. After leaving her there for what was supposed to be only 4-6 hours, I was told she wouldn't be ready until late in the evening, so it took 10 hours. Then next day, the vet called me and told me the test was screwed up because I should have given her the morning insulin shot and fed her, but I was told not to. So, needless to say, there is no communication between the vets, lab techs, and the front. I took my refund and my business to another vet that day. Its a little serious considering the fact that my cat could have DIED if the wrong dose was given. I don't recommend this place to anyone. more

VCA Animal Hospital is Good for the Studio Set 2/24/2006

Terribly convenient for folks working at the studios. They open up early in the morning to help with people's work schedule. The assistants are all very nice (and comforting) while the DVMs are incredibly knowledgeable - I've yet to stump them and I have two aging dogs. more
