Beware of Unnecessary charges 3/23/2011

I want to start by saying that I have gone to these vets on several occasions. Overall, I think their knowledge of veterinary medicine is pretty good. However, I do agree that they recommend a multitude of extra and unnecessary things that all cost a lot of money. If you refuse anything, they give you a large 'sigh' and look at you as if you are doing something really wrong. Unfortunately, I am not made of money and don't appreciate the 'huffiness' when I decline a treatment that appears to be preventative at best. As long as you know you WILL pay more at this vet, by all means go. . . more

Great Vets 8/24/2009

We found a cat in our yard a year ago and after deciding to keep him, we took him to Van Crest to get him checked out. We were given a quote for all the shots, exams, micro-chip, treating ear mites and an ear infection, pulling out 4 teeth and cleaning the rest. The amount of the bill was a shock initially...who is ready to spend $700 on a pet you've had for just a couple of days?...but he had already stolen our hearts and Van Crest offers Care Credit payments plans, which made it possible for us to afford giving him the treatment he needed. When we went to pick him up, we were told that 2 more teeth had to be pulled out because they were in too bad of a shape. However, they were nice enough to work with us and keep everything within the initial quote. We REALLY appreciated that! A couple of weeks after the treatment, our new little baby was a TOTALLY different cat! He was happy, didn't have a stinky breath...and started to actually play with all the toys we had bought him (although he seems to be 3-4 years old)! We were thrilled!\r We have not had any problems with him until a year later...and he is actually hospitalized right now. He stopped eating and drinking 2 days ago. We trust that he will be well taken care of and pray that we can pick him up tomorrow in a much better shape than he was when we left him there.\r I don't think Van Crest is over priced and I do believe that they really care about the animals they treat! I would recommend them. Pros: Friendly and affordable Cons: Haven't found them yet... more

Animal Cruely 5/29/2009

Prior to realizing how Van Crest treats boarded animals, we had boarded our dog there several times. Upon picking her up from Van Crest the last time, she was returned to us in a sickening condition. She completely reeked of urine and had a film covering her coat. Her white paws where also stained a yellow tint. After realizing that her condition could only have been the result of having spent days in her own urine, we contacted the owner/vet to get some answers. He told us that, while he isn’t there over the weekends, the technicians told him that our dog had “wet her cage overnight” and that they normally bathe the dogs prior to sending them home (probably to hid how they treat the animals). The condition our dog was in was the result of having spent NUMEROUS days in urine. One accident could not have left her in such a condition. Although we were refunded our money, we are deeply saddened that we made our innocent dog endure such conditions. Also, our dog was also no longer house trained when she got home – we had to completely start over because she would just wet inside. I’m guessing this is because she wasn’t taken out when she was left with Van Crest and got used to peeing when and wherever she could. Please do not go to Van Crest – animals should NEVER be treated this way. more

Drs shouldn't be able to be in practice! 4/13/2009

I worked for this practice for a short time and they are TERRIBLE! I had an inside view, and it wasn't good. They go out of their was to give unnecessary procedures. Dr. Chambers has a horrible temper and threw a dead puppy across the room in front of their young son. They charge out the wazoo for mitaban dips for mange when Ivermectin is a lot cheaper and more effective. They criticized some pet owners for feeling the need to euthanize their pets when it really needed to be done. There were countless patients lost due to negligence. They treat employees with complete disrespect as well as some clients that I witnessed personally. There were so many times I wanted to tell people to go somewhere else, and that's why I couldn't continue to work for them. I think they must have slept through vet school, they don't know what they're doing. Cons: EVERYTHING more

WORST VETS ON THE PLANET 10/2/2008

Please! NEVER STEP INSIDE of Van Crest Animal Clinic. They jeopardized two of my animals' health. My cat of two years almost died because of Van Crest. My cat was not eating for 6 days so I took her to Van Crest. After Dr. Chambers did everything else first- he finally took an x-ray of my cat. He only seemed to see a small string in her stomach. I had to rush her to Emergency Care because she acting extremely lethargic. They had to remove an entire hairball out of her stomach that was blocking anything she tried to put down! A dog I only had for 3 months was treated for heartworms at Van Crest. They rushed the treatment to get the $ in 3 weeks. According to other vets and research, they should have waited 5 weeks between the initial shots and the second treatment. I was not offered any other options of how my dog could be treated for heartworms. I was not explained much about the treatment, except for being handed a sheet of paper with information on heartworm disease- not the treatment itself. They are also hard to get in touch with. They do not care about the animals or the owners. All they care about it getting as much $ as they can from you. I switched vets after my dog started to breathe really hard in his belly after the second treatment...my dog just died tonight. Pros: The staff is really nice and helpful. Cons: The vets do not know what they are doing and really don't care! more

Mixed bag - good service but treatment not so great 3/28/2008

I took my 4 mth old pup and my 3mth old cat in for rabies vacs and to be fixed. The receptionists were pleasant and the wait was not bad at all (I went at 8:30 on a week day). However, I was not pleased with their 'skill' in the O.R. My roommate is a surgery resident and she said the stitch job they did on both animals was lousy. On my young cat's incision site they did not even bother to line up the sides of the wound and the pup's was hardly any better. In her expert opinion, if that was the best they could do then someone was suturing with their eyes closed. Pros: nice staff - never met vet though Cons: difficult parking, issues with procedure more
