A trip to Val's is not a trip to the hairdresser, it is an adventure. Even if you enter dreary, weary and decades out of style, you will emerge with Style and Attitude! She has ...

While this place looks upscale, the service is anything but. On my first visit there I sat with the hair stylist and showed her, in the book, what I wanted. Platinum blonde. What ...

dont go 3/6/2009

I went to Valerie's once, just because people seemed to rave about it. What a joke......got some girl who i dont even think she had her license ( or she just got it). Haircut was overpriced and they didnt cut hardly anything off! was a total waste. I never went back. Cons: bad stylists more

I give it one star because I cannot give zero. 9/19/2008

This place is awful and I should have left when I saw the owner's tacky shoes. I didn't.\r First of all, I must admit, I was a walk-in. So I wish I had stayed home. And I must give credit to Hannah because she was sweet and did a nice job on my eyebrows. However, the owner, Valerie, is frustrating. She cut three or four inches off my hair when I said an inch and a half. Then blamed me. I told her I wanted my hair darker, she said it had to be lighter.\r I walked out, (after the dammage was done unfortunately), and had my hair done at rumors. I was in tears!! \r Do Not Go here. You Will be sorry. Pros: Really nice staff Cons: Bad Haircut more

Barber license 7/28/2008

Rumor has it that Valerie only has a barber's license and not a full cosmetology license. Meaning she can assist with foil, color & perm but can not do the entire job because she's not qualified. more

wow!! 4/22/2008

After reading the last five reviews of Valerie's Hair Salon, I just had to write myself...I went a few months ago with a friend of mine who LOVES the place - since I couldn't get an appointment at my usual place, I thought I'd give it a try...I have (had) VERY heavy, long, thick hair - it's almost impossible to make a ""whoops"" while styling it...Notice I said almost...\r I always request an experienced stylist - I like the natural curl in my hair and have NO desire to over process it or have a style where it has to be straightened (it takes more than 45 minutes with a top of the line flat iron) and this time, I had been scheduled to meet with the owner - as was my friend, but for some reason, she was not there - no problem, I was open to someone else since I only wanted a trim.\r BIG mistake. The girl who ""styled"" my hair did it ""dry"" - literally grabbing it between two combs and hacking it with thinning shears. I was surrounded by clumps of my hair on the floor - the stuff left on my head sticking up at odd angles. I kept waiting for her to wet it and reshape it - never happened - even another stylist questioned her about it...When I questioned her about it, she actually (and with a straight face) told me my hair had ""scissor shock"" - I responded with ""is that what they're calling a bad style these days?""\r She thought I was kidding.\r So now, MONTHS later my poor, once ""whoops"" proof hair is STILL recovering! The worst part was I was leaving for Europe the next week and had just wanted a simple trim - thank goodness I didn't let her talk me into highlights!! My hair probably would have fallen out in clumps on the plane!!\r Oh, and my once long hair is now barely to my shoulders - I don't even want to get into what she did to my bangs...\r Although the place looks really neat from the outside, run, don't walk, right on by!! Pros: looks nice from the outside Cons: everything else more

Gone way down hill - Stay away...far, far away! 8/25/2007

I used to come here a few years back and had the same girl cut and highlight my hair and I loved it, enough to come back 3 times. I went in last week and asked for the same girl, but she had left and being the selfish business that Valerie's is, they would not tell me where she went. I just wanted to get some layers and clean up my hair, so I agreed to have one of the other girls cut it. It was okay, but it did not look much different, I didn't say anything because I was a walk-in and did not want to take up someone's time who had an appointment. So fine, I make an appointment to get some highlights and maybe some more layering in my hair. The ditzy girl at the counter could not add 38 + 4 or work the credit card machine, so it is no wonder she incorrectly scheduled the appropriate time for my highlights, because when I went in the next week for my scheduled appointment, I was told that I was only scheduled for getting the sides and front done! I am not a half-highlighted-head kind of girl, so I know I would never schedule this...EVER! So, then they proceed to tell me they will rush me or I could reschedule because they have a client scheduled in a half hour... Excuse me! If am paying $130 and up I do not want to be rushed and especaially when I am not at fault. And as far as rescheduling, I already scheduled my appointment and I showed up on time. I work 2 jobs and it is hard to get to anything done, my time is precious and I already wasted 45 minutes for nothing but frustration. So, I left, and when I did the hairdresser just laughed, what great tretment! They did not even try to accommodate me or apologize for screwing up my day. After seeing all of these horrible reviews, I am glad I left and did not let them ""rush me"" because I would probably have disasterous hair right now. Don't waste your hard earned money here....your better off at Fantastic Sams! Seriously! Now, on to the next review site...have to spread the word, cause I am very angry. Pros: They give you a drink and a pastry. Cons: Service, proffesionalism, courtesy, hair styling/cutting more

NEVER AGAIN 7/25/2007

We've all had that slow or forgetful waitress, but we never seem to speak up... Well, this is a hair issue I need to speak up about! I have long, flowing layered hair, and went in for a trim. The stylist and I agreed to add some long bangs, to spice up my look a bit- Now when I say long, my hair is to the middle of my back, so when she cut my bangs almost as short as Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber, I almost died! I could've done a better job with my eyes shut! She knew I was stunned at what she had just done, and kept repeating, ""In a couple days, they will 'soften up..' She dried my hair, I paid and I left. Almost getting in multiple accidents on the way home 'cause I couldnt stop looking in the mirror at how short she cut them! Not only short, but a straight accross cut. No layers, no nothing. I guess I'll be wearing a headband for 3 years til they grow out!!! AS IF THAT WASNT BAD ENOUGH, I was in the area, stopped back in, and talked to the owner herself, politely told her the situation, asking if there was any serum or prod that could help my bangs grow quickly, she snottily said, 'I cant talk, I have a client that just walked in, I said, you dont have 30 seconds to talk to me?? She then 'shoosh'd' me, and said, 'I cant talk, I really cant talk..' More like, 'Wow, there's nothing we can do to help that!' Great customer service! I walked out more frustrated than I was the first time! Like I said, NEVER AGAIN, and beware of this place, and their attitudes, prices, and lack of cutting skills- Pros: After all is said and done, I cant think of one. more

I wouldn't go back. 11/26/2006

I went in for a hair cut and possibly to get some color work done, although I wasn't sure of what I wanted. I felt that the girl who was to work on me didn't seem confident and when I asked for suggestions, she really didn't offer anything different. I was open to suggestions and explained that to her.\r \r I ended up with the same hairstyle I went in with. I also asked for some highlights. I didn't want too many and I didn't want them too light, just something to brighten me up, as if I had been out in the sun.\r Well, not only did she do a lot, they were very chunky and so light that it looked gray. I was mortified. And the cost? $170!! I didn't even ask for her to fix it because I didn't think she had the ability to and honestly, I didn't want her to touch my hair anymore!\r \r My hair has been breaking all where it has been highlighted and other hairstylists have told me that it needs to be cut off and it's beyond repair. \r \r Needless to say, I won't be going back there and I won't be recommending them to my friends. Pros: convenient location and appointment availibility Cons: they destroyed my hair! more

Avoid Foiling!!!! 10/11/2006

I went in for a haircut a while back, the girl that did my hair was very nice. My challenege was that they wanted to have a ""consultation"" before I could ever get my hair cut. That sounds like a great idea in theory. I love the idea of sitting down getting beauty tips from a professional, but when you want me to be there 1/2 hour before you cut my hair, I expect to have an indepth consultation. The majority of the 1/2 hour I spent waiting for the stylist while I drank water and was offered muffins (nice if I wasn't dieting). After sitting for about 25 minutes waiting for my consultation, the stylist came over and was like ""ok what kind of haircut do you want?"" I thought the point of a consultation was to GIVE ME suggestions, go from my ideas that I had and work off that to create a look. I orginally went in for a haircut, but then decided on foils. This seemed like a good idea at the time though the price for this is steep there, the most I've ever paid for foiling. Well in the process my stylist must not have done the best job washing the bleach out of my hair before she dried it, as the water from my hair ran down the back of my shirt it bleached the whole thing, not something that I would worry about that much, except for the fact that it KEPT HAPPENING for the next 2 & 1/2 weeks, I don't know what she put in my hair, but everytime that I would wash it and go out with wet hair it would RUIN the shirt that I had on. By the time that I realized that it was my hair and not something that I was doing with the laundry or something else happening, a GREAT number of my shirts were ruined. As soon as I started making sure the wet hair didn't touch my clothes it stopped. I didn't go back and complain, but I would be VERY careful if you get your hair foiled there, they use chemicals that are TOO strong, scary it was still coming out of after that long! Pros: Friendly, Beautiful Facility Cons: Stylist Skill, Too Strong Chemicals, "Consultation" is 20 minutes of waiting for stylist more

Bleached and Burnt 9/10/2006

While this place looks upscale, the service is anything but. On my first visit there I sat with the hair stylist and showed her, in the book, what I wanted. Platinum blonde. What I came out with was bleached blonde with a small burnt patch by my right eye. When I asked if she could tone it down, I was asked to come back later, she had two other clients waiting. I did not leave and the ""fix"" she did looks just as bad as before. For what I paid I expected much more. She quoted me $154 and at the register it was up to $162. I will never suggest this place to my friends. Pros: Beauty Products Cons: Skill of Stylist more
